What is the most magical retail experience you've had?

I'm just looking to have a special few days with dd perhaps in London, York, Dublin or Edinburgh (am flexible tho) and would like to experience some special shops as well as other sights obviously.

I enjoyed Edinburgh especially underground, London I found too much, never been to Dublin but I love love love York, loads of history, little nooks and crannies, lots of museums, river boats, you can walk the walls, the minster is gorgeous and obviously the shambles. I've done several ghost/history walks and it has my favourite street name ever... whip ma whop ma gate

Definitely London

Stay on Piccadilly - go in Waterstones and browse books and gifts - then go to the top floor for a coffee/gin ! And look over London

Then go out the store, across the road into the arcade with all the jewellery shops and Laduree

Then go back into the Main Street and head to Fortnums - look at ALL floors, buy lovely Christmas coffee and biscuits and just everything !

Then go back out and get your steps in by walking to Liberty - mooch about, have lunch - walk down Carnaby street and get an ice cream and make up

Then jump on a bus and go to the south bank - the stalls aren't great but it's a lovely walk along and into Foyles bookshop and on to Tate Modern - the gift shop is really good

AVOID Oxford street

London can be overwhelming and far too many people at times. Plus a lot of shops on the traditional shopping streets are shut or closing.

York is lovely and, as with Edinburgh, if you avoid peak season you'll get more out of it.
