Next door neighbour new CCTV

My next door neighbour (I live on the end terrace, next door is mid terrace) has recently had 3 CCTV cameras installed on the property. One on the front of the garage (our garages are joined and drive way is a shared area. One space per house in front of our garages) so is pointing at my car, and another on the back of the house overlooking the garden. The garden one concerns me the most, as their garden is small and the CCTV will more than definitely have some of my garden on the images. AIBU to send a note asking them to blur out/mute where my garden is on the camera? I have 2 young children and I dont want us to feel watched in the privacy of our own home. The installation man told me she was getting the CCTV, the neighbour didnt actually let me know she'd be doing this, and that the neighbour had been 'having trouble recently'. I'm unsure of rules regarding having home surveillance so any help appreciated. Just to note the neighbour is a busybody/nosey type and I very much keep to myself, hence the worry 😂

My neighbour has a camera pointing at my back garden. I'm assuming if I can see the lens of the camera it can see me.Theres absolutely no need for a camera in the back garden as there is no access whatsoever! It pisses us off.

We have cameras on our home as my husband is sometimes away and on one such occasion I heard someone trying my door, also had multiple cars stolen from drives in our estate a few years ago
we have three cameras, one on the drive which is shared, one front and one back.
we told our neighbours before we installed them and why we were. Non of them point at their property and we have set blacked out zones for any peripheries not in our border.
i don't think it is unreasonable to ask a neighbour to do this

Kathryn1983 · 08/12/2023 20:49

Not unreasonable they legally can only have their own property on the cctv
mask to check the feed and get them to adjust it and if they can't adjust it to remove your garden from the view they have to take down the camera
you are well within your rights to do this !

@JRM17 Definitely wouldn't be asking for video footage of my child getting hurt in my back garden, bit weird?

My hubby is a cctv Engineer and always makes sure cameras don't overlook other people's properties/gardens. You are well within your rights to explain and ask for the angle to be altered which is easy.

You are legally within your rights to ask for it to be repositioned as is a breach of your privacy on your own private property.

When my next door neighbour had it installed I asked the man doing it, as some of it was pointed at my door and windows, and a local play area. He said he would block it out from showing my house, and the park.

He may well have done this, so your property is fuzzed out and they won't be able to see. Maybe ask them?

justwanttoquit · 09/12/2023 20:23

Just be aware they maybe also recording sound. Sounds like she's being nosy and spying on you. She sounds like our next door neighbour, who has a camera on the front of his house, plus his door bell camera, his dash board camera, plus a camera on his shed pointing towards his house and one from the house to his shed. They record sound and pictures. These cover every aspect of our garden. We have done everything possible to sort it out. The laws are weak and useless, even when he's admitted to putting videos of us and our kids on Facebook if it amuses him. We no longer use our garden as a result.

Most cameras allow you to block out bits you don’t want to record

Just talk to them

I highly doubt they are interested in filming you

HI Sassqueen - Did you get a solution for this as I have the same problem? And I know it's malicious - continuing attempts to stop me enjoying my garden.
