Our lovely eldest has become a typical teenager overnight and never wants to leave her room.

She's kind, funny, clever, top sets at school, nice friends, has extra curriculars etc but when at home just wants to sit in her bed watching 'stuff'.

Is this the norm? She will come down for dinner with us etc, will come out if going out and about, but has no real interest in us bar that. 😁

When I was a teen smartphones weren't a thing, we had one TV in the living room etc so sitting in my room wasn't as appealing.

Do you limit screentime etc for yours? Our devices turn off at certain times etc and I'm quite strict on how long she's allowed tiktok or whatever but I'm wondering what everyone else does?

I'm not sure what else you are expecting if she will come out with you, and joins for dinner? What else would you like her to be doing? I don't mean this to sound rude, sorry! It's just that I have a 13yr old daughter too and I feel like we do well because she eats dinner with us and will sometimes join us out and about at the weekends! In between homework and dinner at home she is chilling in her room.

Sounds pretty normal to me OP!

I have three teens, two boys and a girl. They have to come and sit at the table with no phones for mealtimes. The 14yo leaves his phone downstairs overnight (but the 16yo and 18yo can have theirs in their rooms). All of them are doing well at school and do lots of after school activities, so that is a "natural" way of limiting their tech rather than imposing limits etc.

I also recommend Untangled by Lisa Damour for a good, balanced book about teen girls.
