Naproxen help

SpottyCrumpet · 05/12/2023 14:39

Just been prescribed it for back pain caused by an osteopath screaming me up 😭

anyway I also have Omeprazole.

it says take with it - does this mean literally at the same time or take Omeprazole in the morning and naproxen a few hours later? I’ve been told twice a day for naproxen

also I wanted to take the naproxen tonight (first dose) but don’t have an empty stomach for the Omeprazole (I used to have it and would take it first thing every day but obviously can’t do that today)

thanks

I just take it at the same time.

What did the osteopath do?! I was tempted to see one but bottled it.

SpottyCrumpet · 05/12/2023 14:45

@garlictwist massage basically down my neck and back, quite deep to mobilise the spine and some stretches. Came out feeling tall and really good. The next evening, had a horrendous pain in my upper spine spreading into my neck which just isn’t going away. Terrified. Doctor believes it’s muscle spasms and tension.

If in doubt about a dosage regime, your local pharmacist is a “go to” for good medication advice. Hive them a call.

If you think you have muscle spasms, then muscle relaxants will be far more help than naproxen. I would go back to your GP and try and get some.

Omeprazole is very robust and although it is a little better if you take it on an empty stomach, a 30 mins gap is fine. My DS was recommended to take it before bed as sleeping is the highest risk activity for acid damage as you are horizontal for a long time.

SpottyCrumpet · 05/12/2023 15:10

@SeaToSki thank you.

gp offered diazepam but I declined at this stage as I don’t like taking medication as it is and adding in something like that will cause me to freak out. I’m already worrying about side effects from the naproxen.

Take the omeprazole once in the morning, preferably on an empty stomach. Naproxen regularly twice a day, with breakfast and dinner perhaps.

TidalShore · 05/12/2023 15:19

I have Lansaprozole rather than Omeprazole, but have that first thing before breakfast, then Naproxen after breakfast and again after tea in the evening.

Personally I'd not worry about 1 naproxen without Omeprazole (and occasionally I forget to take Lansaprozole but still take naproxen myself), but I have zero medical knowledge!

OldTinHat · 05/12/2023 15:44

I take naproxen and omeprazole at the same time in the morning and naproxen just on its own at night.

Hope you feel better soon.

Groovee · 05/12/2023 15:46

My GP told me to take the lansoprazol she prescribed at least 2 hours before naproxen and to eat stodgy food when taking naproxen. I've been upped from 250mg to 500mg naproxen too.

Hasn't stopped the reflux fully but it helping better.

SpottyCrumpet · 05/12/2023 15:51

Thanks. They’re 500mg pills I’ve been given which seems a high dose.

I will take the Omeprazole before dinner today and the naproxen after, and then start having the O every morning.

This is what I do , no problems at all
