Help with child’s locked Android device

DS and I share a Samsung tablet. It has two separate accounts on (his and mine), and Family Link enabled. DS has put on a pattern screen lock on his account (he’s not supposed to, he’s only 4) and can’t remember what it is.

Using the Family Link app on my phone, there is an option to change password for his device which I’ve done (entered a numeric code) but it’s made no difference – it still asks for the pattern. Lots of advice online talks about locking his account from another device and using parental code to unlock but the option to enter a parental code never appears on his screen.

Googling, consensus seems to say last resort is a factory reset but I don’t want to do this as my account is on there too, which I can still access fine. It’s just his account we can’t get into.

Surely there must be a way I can remove his password remotely given it’s an account under parental control? Help!

@MabelMaybe Thanks, looked promising but as it's a tablet not a phone that is locked, there is no emergency call option to type the numbers into

It is logged into Google on the phone? If so, you should be able to factory reset and then just log back in and get everything back as it was before.

Oh really? I can't be certain if it's logged into his account but it definitely linked to a google account for him so it may well be. I think that I'm going to have to try this as am out of options!
