Is flat mate wrong here or he is just being a jerk?

My flat mate is calling me a sell out for supporting England.

I have Nigerian ancestry through both of my parents. Mum (British born) and Dad fully Nigerian.

I was born and raised in London mostly till age 13. Spent childhood development in Nigeria in between (about 2-3 years)

At age 13, I then spent my teenage years and a bit of adulthood in Nigeria.

I came back to London at age 21 and have been living here ever since.

I told him both countries have shaped me and I have every right to support Nigeria and England and not have it questioned.

What is your perspective on this?

YANBU

He's being a jerk. My DCs support England and Ireland - same reason.

SurvivingNotThriving · 05/12/2023 13:05

YANBU, of course. You can support whoever you like!

GarlicMaybeNot · 05/12/2023 13:06

Your flatmate's trying to tell you who you are & who you should be. That's obviously unreasonable. Your dual national 'identity' is personal to you, not a political football for others to kick.

He's being a stone cold dickhead. It's none of his business who you support.

Hadalifeonce · 05/12/2023 14:31

I support England in every sport, but will support any of the home nations if they are playing against anyone else, bar England.
So he is an idiot.

He's being an utter jerk. You can support whichever team you damn well please.

Jerk. He can mind his own.
