Quizzers assemble!

@rosegoldwatcher
@SoupDragon
@minou123
@GoldenCupidon

It's back. My stupidly hard Xmas work quiz is live. As per usual I've done round one and now I'm stuck on the answer for round 2.

I've actually identified all the pictures, found the clue but the answer isn't working 😭

Sorry for crappy pictures but if you use the first letter of each of the album names it spells out "album ones singers" so I thought it must be the singers on the Arctic Monkeys album 'AM'....but whichever way I put the names in it doesn't work.

Then I thought as the clue at the top is "Artistless" maybe I had to remove Alex Turner (as Turner is a famous artist) but I'm still striking out!

As always, any help appreciated & if I've missed any of the amazing quizzers who usually play along (I know I have) please feel free to tag them

Sorry @ApocalypseNowt you're going to have to do some sneaking around your setters/competitors for hints

I thought that maybe the answer for Thailand would have to be out of the letters W, X, Y, Z & A in alpha order.

I tried WXY, WXZ, WYZ, XYZ, WXA, WYA, WZA, XYA, XZA to no avail..

I can't even see if i've missed any combos now. My brain is melting out of my ears.

Is there a reason you haven't tried A at the beginning of the 3-letter groups? So AYZ etc.

BIWI · 05/12/2023 15:30

The Japanese flag is also known as the Hinomaru - which could be the H?

minou123 · 05/12/2023 15:30

Has it got to do with the flags changing/amended?

All the flags on the list have been changed or slightly altered in the 20th century.
Brazil and USA added new stars
USSR changed when it became Russia
Japan changed from the Rising Sun after WW2
Spain got rid if the Eagle, or something.

Although, that doesn't help with the letters......

Desolatewardrobe · 05/12/2023 15:36

I've just spent time looking up the names of the delegates at the Versailles Conference. Obviously with no joy.

All these countries were signatories of the Treaty though, even though they didn't all go on to become members of the LoN.

SoupDragon · 05/12/2023 15:47

Thank goodness you finally got Hamza to work!

I was thinking the alphabet starts again as the next flag (USA) letters are BGK.

It made sense at the time anyway...

Are the letters under each flag a code?

For example A = 1, B = 2, C = 3 etc

Anyone good at code breaking?

ApocalypseNowt · 05/12/2023 16:00

I've also looked at who designed the flags. Not helpful.

The colours of the Thai flag apparently represent nation - religion - king.

Could it be the letters n-r-k rearranged alphabetically to k-n-r?

I have no idea what the letters for the other flags represent so just stabbing wildly in the dark here!

minou123 · 05/12/2023 16:20

Its definitely not the initials of the World Cup Referees in 2022

SugarCookieMonster · 05/12/2023 16:21

Just went down a rabbit hole of flag designers. USA was Betsy Ross and George Washington. Spoiler alert: it not flag designers!

swampusdonkus · 05/12/2023 16:25

Ok, random thought; could BGK under USA be Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter

ApocalypseNowt · 05/12/2023 16:27

Unfortunately not.

Do keep chucking out any random thoughts or guesses though. It may strike inspiration into one of us!

ApocalypseNowt · 05/12/2023 16:38

I’ve tried events of December 1991 (when the USSR fell), visits by the pope and elite military units - my search history is getting interesting.

ApocalypseNowt · 05/12/2023 16:41

Adon is a Thai street fighter character. looking for others now....

How!? Hahahaha bloody hell, well done

PianPianPiano · 05/12/2023 16:46

Googled Japanese people with e.h initials. Still not 100% but I can find someone for all the countries that fit (street fighter 2 in particular).
There's an M. Bison that might be Thai, it's not entirely clear...

ricecrispiecake · 05/12/2023 16:47

A K N the code? Adon, Kikun and Nuakan are all Thai according to street fighter wiki

WitcheryDivine · 05/12/2023 16:48

This might help.
