Have I been discriminated against?

a while ago I was working somewhere where I was on variable shifts. People that had been there pre a certain time were on set days but any newer employees were not, which was part of my contract so fine.

I went on maternity leave and requested set days on my return which was denied. In the end I left because I wasn’t going to pay for five days of nursery when we might only need one or two days depending on the shift pattern.

but here’s my issue - my maternity replacement was a p/t student so they let her have set days???

surely this isn’t right. It kind of feels like discrimination but maybe I’m being dramatic idk

I left about 18 months ago but it’s been playing on my mind lately because I’m going on leave again soon and it’s been handled so differently in my new workplace. My close friend still works there and has had so many issues with management and HR.

is it worth me pursuing some sort of complaint? I probably would have stayed otherwise because I loved the job itself. However I really love my new job and it’s managed so well so should I just count as a blessing in disguise?

You're out of time to take them to employment tribunal anyway. I think you should just focus on the good you have now and stop ruminating about what happened in the past.

I had put it to the back of my mind but it’s just bothering me more lately now I am experiencing the same situation being handled in a far more positive way.

it actually just annoys me that they are still behaving like this with other employees and it doesn’t seem right

but thanks. I think you’re probably right

It was unfair and you should take some time to process how you were treated. Once you have done that you can move on.
