How do you walk your dogs with a baby?!

We've got a dog walker but would like to not use her any more for financial reasons.

We started using her when I was heavily pregnant and struggling to walk far, then I had a long c-section recovery and by then we were in the swing of it and just carried on using her.

Baby is 12 months old now and I really can't put her in the baby carrier any more, she's too heavy and it wrecks my back. We have two pushchairs but neither is suitable for all terrain (lots of fields and beaches near us).

What does everyone else do with a baby??

Sounds like you need an all terrain buggy with good suspension?

Or a better baby carrier that doesn't hurt your back.

We had a 3 wheel all terrain one as we were used to woodland walks pre pregnancy, so we were just able to continue doing that.

Buy an all terrain buggy.

Get a sling that you wear so baby can go on your back. A tula or a connecta would be worth looking at.

FoamRoller · 04/12/2023 16:30

Either a well supported sling that you can use in a back carry or all terrain push chair.

There are sling libraries to hire from if you want to try a different type, and I would 100% recommend trying a back carry if you haven't already, then it's just like wearing a rucksack. See the Baby Wearing UK Facebook group if you need any help 😊

An all terrain buggy will last for ages and it doubles as a bag.

If you get the right carrier and it fits well you should be able to carry for a while. I walked the dogs with mine in carriers until they were 18 months then I put them in a pre school carrier. It takes some getting used to and your dog has be well trained and not pull!

CirceIsMyHomegirl · 04/12/2023 16:48

Out and about nipper or a backpack carrier - I used one or the other every day. When I had 2 under 2 I used both.
Forest tracks, beaches, up hills etc - it worked well.

DappledThings · 04/12/2023 16:48

You need a better sling. I used ours up to 3.5 years and it was really comfortable. That was a Beco Gemini.

Proper all terrain buggy. Can do most surfaces. Deep snow is tiring though.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 04/12/2023 16:58

Get an out N about nipper

Quisto · 04/12/2023 17:14

Definitely all terrain three wheeler and backpack carrier. I took mine out every day with DDog, even on Dartmoor and Cornwall Coast Path. I was a pretty geriatric mother, but still did it.

CrikeyMajikey · 04/12/2023 17:17

Out & About Nipper. Amazing pushchairs.

Confusedddddddd · 04/12/2023 17:24

Have you tried back carrying? It was a bit of a game changer for me. That's the main way I walk dog with baby. But we also have an all terrain pram (I candy peach all terrain)

Dazzylazzy · 04/12/2023 17:28

Back pack style carrier. I carried my 1st on my back until I gave birth to number 2 when number 1 was 20 months old. while walking the dogs. I hated a pushchair. Even all terrain are a nightmare but a back pack and away I went. I carried number 2 on my back until they were nearly 3 I think.
