I have a chronic illness and I’m currently being referred to a specialist for spinal issues, so I have a plethora of pre-existing conditions that I know wouldn’t be covered. (I’m having to pay for a private consultation on the advice of my GP as the NHS wait is almost 2 years…)
However, I’m mid-30s so there’s plenty of time to get ill in other ways (cheerful I know!) and with the way the NHS is going, I’m wondering whether it’s sensible to get private health insurance for my family.
A quick online comparison is coming in at £160 a month for the cheapest cover (me, my husband and our daughter).
Is it worth it? It’s a hefty chunk every month but if it means we can see a GP at a moment’s notice or be referred to a consultant free of charge it could save a lot of stress.
