Fever in toddler.

I listed earlier about this weird cold. Me and DH have been unwell. Body aches, coughs, green and nasty tasting pleghm. My toddler ins now refusing to eat. He's been laid on sofa watching TV all afternoon. He literally won't move which is unlike him. He's a whippet usually. I've just taken his temp,he's had calpol. Its still 39 Celsius. Does this warrant a call to 111 or should I just keep an eye? I'm a FTM and I have anxiety so I don't want to call them up panicking if this is a normal reaction to a cold.

Did his temperature come down at all with Calpol?
If not, could you try a dose of nurofen?

If his temp comes down even a little bit, that's a good sign.
Does he have any obvious symptoms like cough, snotty nose, etc?

As long as he's rousable, drinking enough to produce some wee and temp isn't climbing despite meds I would watch and wait a bit.

But, if you're worried, seek medical advice. It's never wrong to be cautious where little ones are concerned x

He has been doing some little coughs. But no snotty nose or anything. He's just very lethargic and grumpy and no energy. Usually he's.climbing the walls but he's just laid here. He hasn't eaten much today. Only a banana and a croissant. Refusing everything is else. He's had one full beaker of milk and one full beaker of juice.

Will he let you look at his tonsils? When mine was hot and refusing to eat he had tonsillitis.

How old?

platinumplus · 04/12/2023 16:08

Could be an ear infection. He probably needs checking but I don't think it's super urgent at the moment. Can you call your GP?

platinumplus · 04/12/2023 16:09

Also it's a really good sign that he's drinking and eating even if it's not as much as usual.

Sometimes us adults don't feel like eating much when we're under the weather.

He is 18 months old. I'm thinking he has the same as whatever me & DH have got. I can't get a look in his mouth unfortunately.

Sounds like my 3yo who has spent a lot of the last few days on the sofa. Had a temp the first day but not since. Some snot and coughing but not much.

Meanwhile I'm alternating between continuous sneezing, running nose and being blocked up plus generally feeling like death warmed up. It's fun here!

How's the wee guy today?

Thanks for your concern. He's still really under the weather. Barely eating anything since yesterday and is just turning his nose up. He's had a bit to drink. He's still running a fever at 38. He's been sat on the sofa all day wrapped in a blanket. He's clearly very unwell. I'm just going to see how the goes and see how he is tomorrow. I feel hideous too with bad head and body aches and sinus pain. We must have the same thing

Scarlet fever is doing the rounds near us, so look out for those signs. A papery rash on face or hands, spots on torse, whiteness on tongue. It's nothing to worry about but does need antibiotics. And I find the fever can be more persistent with it than the average viral thing. But if you're all ill then it's probably a shared illness. Try not to worry.

Sounds like us. Dd slept from half 4 yesterday afternoon til half 11 this morning, minus 1.5 hours for a bite last night. Then again, I went to bed before 10 with her and got up no earlier.

Hope you're all better soon!
