Ratty and being manspained to

Not getting on very well at the moment.

Today he is pushing my buttons either intentionally or not but I'm on my last nerve with him.

The radiator in the living room isn't giving much heat off and I asked him to have a look at it when he has time. I asked him a couple of days ago also.

He goes "like what right now this second" in quite a bit of a cunty tone so I said no just soon please before you go away tomorrow.

So he stands over me, I mean like next to me but not moving to sit down or anything just hovering at the side of the sofa (the radiator is behind me) and he is huffing and puffing and saying nothing at all so I say what and he goes well you will need to move for me to look at it, so I get up, he moves the sofa and takes off the radiator cover and explains it's the radiator cover that's preventing some of the heat coming out, it's heating the radiator cover internal space which is making the radiator pump out less heat as it's measuring the heat in the radiator cover so it thinks it's doesn't need to heat up anymore and he can either leave the cover off or take the thermostat off to see if it heats up any further.

The radiator was warm in my opinion not hot, he said it was boiling but you could have kept your hand on it comfortably and not needed to move it off at all.

Is this true? Or is he bullshitting about the radiator and the cover?

Radiator shouldn't be too hot to touch

Aparecium · 03/12/2023 17:43

Does the cover go over the thermostatic valve, or does the valve stick out from the cover?

Also, is he always so dickish to you?

Alargeoneplease89 · 03/12/2023 17:46

Probably needs bleeding, something you can easily do yourself. If you feel he's being a cunt - why not do it yourself? Plenty of YouTube videos etc will piss him off more that you don't need him and much more satisfying then relying on him

Theunamedcat · 03/12/2023 17:47

My radiators are always hot not warm if they are just warm there is an issue because "warm" doesn't heat the entire room hot does

alwaysmovingforwards · 03/12/2023 18:02

Is he a heating engineer?

ANightingale · 03/12/2023 18:33

Is it mansplaining when you asked him to try to diagnose your radiator fault?

vernatheraven · 04/12/2023 09:29

He is a heating engineer!

I feel like he's just bull shitter me because he can't be arsed.

He explained it to me three times. At the second explaining I said I understand what you said please don't explain it again to me"

So he started explaining it again and I said "I understood both times please stop" and he's still fucking rabbiting on.

He does this all the time and it's really getting on my nerves. Explaining things to me that I clearly already know. He did it with a smoke alarm.

I shit you not, started telling me that if we had a fire the smoke detectors would detect it and alert us. FFS. 🤦🏽‍♀️

He pulls his weight in the house I can't fault him for that but he will then make out to friends and family that I do nothing in the house and I don't know how to. All as a joke. It's no longer funny and I've said this repeatedly I don't like it.

I have a decent full time job. I was a single parent before I met him. I'm not helpless. But it's getting boring him acting like I am.

You can't say I understand it and at the same time you don't understand what he is telling you !

Are you also a heating engineer ?

Absolutely this. It's not difficult to do and would show him up for the condescending prat that he is 😒

I don't believe what he is saying about it not needing bleeding.

I understood what he was saying but it didn't ring true.

I'm not an engineer no, but I am technical and what he was saying didn't ring true.

I will google how to bleed it myself and I will do it myself later as he is away and it was hot last year and every other year before that.

You sound a bit tetchy and insufferable. Either fix it yourself or organise for someone to sort it out.
It's not automatically his job to do it. Particularly after you've tried to tell him he is wrong about his own job as it 'doesn't ring true'.
Does he tell you that you do your job wrong too?

vernatheraven · 04/12/2023 09:44

I'm annoyed because this is the latest in a load of things that he's said he will fix then hasn't because he's given me some bullshit answer. When he is more than capable of fixing the issue.

You know yourself when you have someone over to quiet to do a job and if they are acting shifty then it comes across. This is the same.

@CeaselesslyIntoThePast

I haven't told him he's wrong. I just asked him to stop explaining it to me over and over again.

I will fix it myself.

I think it is his job to fix radiators as he knows how to do this as it's his old job, absolutely pointless to call someone in to do this when he is more than capable just can't be arsed.

I have asked him a couple of times already and he has said I need to get my tools from work. Which he hasn't but had his work truck last night so had the tools.

If I know how to do something myself I will do it.

I'm going to do it tonight I will figure it out from YouTube.

You will need a radiator key

Well this is embarrassing.

Went out and left the radiator cover off.

Came back and it's hot hot. Not warm. So it is what he said because of the cover.

He was telling the truth about why and I was in the wrong.

At least I don't have to bleed the radiator.

It's been a bit of a shit day so far as the dog has randomly pissed on the curtain but at least I can just wash it in the machine.

CalistoNoSolo · 04/12/2023 19:01

Radiator covers are stupid pointless things that don't even look nice. But it sounds like your relationship has bigger problems than how hot the radiators are getting. Slagging you off to other people in the guise of a joke is a shitty thing to do and one I would only tolerate once. Why are you with him? Does he make you happy and confident or is he slowly dragging you down?

Sounds like you need to de-stress. I hope you are ok.
