Hats

Why don't we wear hats more often? In winter they prevent heat loss, in summer they protect you from the sun and melanoma plus they can protect or hide your hair. Bring back hats I say!

Agree, BUMP

Don't we? I see lots of sun hats in summer and a lot of winter hats in winter, at least once the temperature goes into minus. In warmer winter, I wear an earband, since my ears get cold (short hair), but I'd feel too warm in a hat.

And they can aid the incognito supermarket dash when looking scrufftastic. We all know that is when you will definitely bump into boss/client/jerk from school.

Alternatively, they can frame a face beautifully if going full on bonnet or floppy doodah.

@Precipice I rarely see hats in summer over here. Sometimes on babies and toddlers. I used to wear sunhats when in Malaysia. I regret not packing them to bring to the UK.

I used to wear hats all the time when I was working and travelled everywhere by public transport. I love the look of hats, winter or summer, and used to own a lot. Twenty years on I'm not working, I drive, and I don't walk long distances, so I don't need them. All my dear hats of the past went out in two huge downsizing moves. These days I own two summer hats and a few berets I've knitted in the last couple of years. Be different if there was anywhere to walk where I am, but the nearest shops are a 30 minute walk away, so it's not happening.

I notice that there aren't the gorgeous hats around that there were in the 90s. A friend and I used to go into Myer just to try on their hats. Now? Pffft.

I love a hat and keep hoping they'll come properly back into fashion.

I have long hair so rarely feel the need to wear a sun hat in uk in summer but always abroad.

Love a winter hat.

I wear caps in the summer and cosy hats in the winter

My five year old is hat obsessed. He has a collection and it is a very serious decision each morning which hat he is going to wear.

The no hat thing is strange. It only really started forty years or so ago, if you look at older newsreels or photos everyone is wearing a hat. Even in the 1989’s hats were still expected at formal occasions.

we still have a decent wardrobe of hats, though, because we go racing in the winter and a hat makes a huge difference to keeping warm. When we lived in France, it was the opposite, people wore hats a lot to keep the sun out of their eyes and off their faces.
