Can anyone identify this book based a very vague and probably wrong plot?

This is a book my aunt was talking about that she really enjoyed but she couldn’t remember what it was called. I’d like to track it down for her. She said she read it several years ago but I’ve no idea how old
it is.

She described the plot thus:

A girl is being bullied in school. At some
point she goes missing and is never found. The bully grows up and becomes a detective, and decides to try and track down the missing girl. Detective learns
missing girl was last seen in some forest. Detective goes into the forest and finds
some village/commune type thing in a clearing. They send detective through some portal into a world full of lost people and things. The lost people wear the lost clothes that they buy in shops. In one of these shops detective recognises some stuff belonging to missing girl. She eventually tracks down missing girl and they try to find their way out of weird lost things land.

Is this ringing any bells to anyone at all?

Try asking on the What We're Reading section. They are excellent at this stuff.

It's "A Place Called Here" by Cecelia Ahern I think, I read it a while ago
