Quitting smoking - patches

Hey everyone,
So I have ordered nicotine patches and gum to try and quit smoking. I’ve tried vaping previously with some success but went back to smoking full time. I do not want to vape again so that’s out.

Reading through the side effects has actually given me the fear! Im now wondering if the gum alone is the way to go.
Does anyone have any experience with either of these or any suggestions?

I’ve felt ready to quit for a while now and then end up just going for my first one of the day through habit. It’s a if I don’t do it now I won’t get a chance till x time which is so stupid.

For full disclosure I have Crohn’s disease and was hospitalised now twice for flares. Both some time ago and it’s under control however since then I have this fear in the out of my stomach even if I just get a regular bug or am around someone who has one. The way I felt was horrific and I am now scared of getting unwell. I know it’s stupid but when I was reading the side effects I began to panic because I just don’t want to feel that way ever again.
