What do your cats do to annoy you ? Do they do it on purpose ?

I haven't been a cat serf for many years but I can remember irritations like demanding to be let back in the house ages after everyone has gone to bed and the doors are all locked. Said cat would already have been given adequate opportunity to come back inside. Also, turning nose up at whatever variety or brand of food was on offer. Most annoyingly of all, sitting or lying on the newspaper or magazine you had on the kitchen table (it was always the kitchen table), thus preventing you from reading it.

Deliberately being annoying or just normal cat behaviour ? Who knows!

Mine plays a game - she want to come in but you have to call her, she will stare at you until you shut the door. Then she runs full pelt until you open the door, when she sits down

Vomiting everywhere apart from the easy to clean hardwood floors it’s like extra points will be awarded by hardness to clean e.g. rugs with long pile (tick), down radiators (tick) fresh laundry (tick) beds (tick) where humans will stand on the sock with bare feet (extra bonus point)

Liking a brand of cat food for 5 minutes before going off it and looking like it’s poison I’m trying to feed them

Deliberately, scent marking/rubbing up against the dog as they know she is scared of them (old moggy showed her who was boss as a pup so since then she is terrified of cats I genuinely think the cats want to be her friend)

Licking the tap for a “sinkie-drinkie” even though they have a fountain, and two bowls of water to choose from which they ignore. But leave down a glass of water and they will drink it.

scratching the carpet a foot away from their scratching pole

I utterly adore cats they don’t give a f£&@ about us

Mine jumps on the kitchen windowsill and rattles the blind when he's hungry Confused

Eats plastic. Any form of it but the crinkly stuff is best (like you get on chocolate boxes)
Bin bags, blood test bags, clothes delivered, cat litter, his food bag, dental floss...

You wouldn't believe how much plastic your home has in it until you have something that can smell it 10ft away Grin

"Sorry the cat ate my blood test bag" as I produced the form got a Hmm face

SwedeCaroline · 03/12/2023 03:23

of course not. nothing the master s do can be faulted. Here are some of the htings i do that annoy them

frequently dont get out of bed until 5 am - a good two hours after breakfast should have been served in any decent household

make it rain when they want to go out

repeatedly replace the wallpaper on the walls, in spite of them persistantly explaining they prefer it in shreads on the floor

hogging the duvet, and the settee

expecting to use the top cat seat, aka laptop keyboard, whenever I want

putting things on shelves

offering a previously enjoyed catfood again

honestly, poor creatures, you can see why they have so much to complain about

Girl cat insists on deliberately getting under my feet when I haven't understood exactly what her irritated little cat head wants. She can be perfectly graceful...

Boy cat insists on going out the back door (opened specially) instead of through the bedroom window route.

I am seriously contemplating getting some of those buttons that speak to train the girl cat in particular....

Selttan · 03/12/2023 04:27

My youngest steals my spot all the time - if I move from the lounge or bed she slides right in there.

Also does it to my other cat. What I find funny is after she's done it she'll stare at you as if waiting for a reaction.

MrsMurphyIWish · 03/12/2023 07:23

We’re currently having building works so my cat climbs the ladders and scaffolding to the newly built second floor and then realises she can’t get down. I then have to go upstairs and let her in through a window on the landing. She’s done it more than once. We leave the house at 7.30 and don’t get home til 5. She could be up there hours!

Pickingmyselfup · 03/12/2023 09:13

One of mine will only sit on us no matter what position we are in. He won't lie next to us, near us, but draped on us. Right now I'm on my side and he's draped over my leg.

The other likes to protest wee if she doesn't get her own way. If we don't feed her quick enough or let her in a room or even out of the house despite a cat flap and several litter trays she will start by meowing then it progresses to glass pawing. If she still isn't listened to she will wee on something. She also went through a phase of waking us up in the early hours pawing at our faces because she was hungry. Worse than a baby!

Then there are the mice we get brought..if we are lucky they are dead, if not we get live mice living in the house until they either die or get caught and killed. I wouldn't mind but mice are awful chewers and I like my stuff.

Brird · 03/12/2023 09:42

Putting her face an inch from mine when she wants me to wake up to give her a cuddle, usually at 4am. She escalates to tapping my face with a paw if the combo of breath and whiskers doesn't work.

Desperately miaowing / digging in litter box, having been peacefully asleep up until that point, if I try and have a zoom work call.

User43219 · 03/12/2023 09:50

Mine waits until I'm almost asleep and then goes and whines to be let out in the process waking up the other cat who is happily snoozing on the sofa. Other things she does, if I don't sit down and stroke her in the morning she'll sit outside my study whining until I give in and go and sit on the sofa with her.

The other likes sitting by the open door which is fine in the summer but not when it's freezing and the heating is on. When I boot him out he sits staring in, like he's been out there all night and I'm a mean slave.

They're also both jealous of each other, if one gets attention the other has to get it as well. Even if it means they both sit on my lap at the same time.

frankie001 · 03/12/2023 10:42

My 3 do nothing without intent!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 03/12/2023 11:01

Mine is also a plastic chomper. Like a PP, he's been known to chew on the plastic blood test packets. I'm forever finding slightly wet, chewed edges of packaging and being woken in the night to "chomp, chomp, chomp" wondering what the hell he's got his teeth into now!

Here's the little sod right now pretending butter wouldn't melt.

Octavia64 · 03/12/2023 11:03

Getting into next door's garden and then hiding behind the shed and refusing to come out. For hours. Making me look like a muppet in front of very nice and polite next door neighbour.

DilemmaDelilah · 03/12/2023 11:04

One of my cats used to pat me whenever she wanted attention, quite often on my face. She did that A LOT! she was also very vocal. She died a few months ago and I miss her greatly.
Her sister hardly made a noise, but once the first one died all of a sudden she was really REALLY vocal, including in the middle of the night. She is also now asking for food every time somebody goes into the kitchen, even if she has just been fed and still has food in her bowl. She is around 17 years old and I think she is getting dementia, but she is still gorgeous.

DilemmaDelilah · 03/12/2023 11:06

My gorgeous elderly cat

TroysMammy · 03/12/2023 11:06

Straight after he's eaten he jumps up on the work surfaces looking for something else. The other day I drained out the remnants of a bottle of rapeseed oil into a roasting dish for later. He was up on the hob licking the oil in full view of me. He gives no fucks to me shouting at him to get down. No other cat I had was so blatant as Haribo.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/12/2023 11:08

Shouting at us. Frequently.

TiredandLate · 03/12/2023 11:09

Being terrified of the dryer at all times, except, when the door is open and I'm trying to empty or fill it, and the silly bastard climbs in.

LlynTegid · 03/12/2023 11:17

They are the cat or cats who live in your house. No-one owns a cat!

samestyle · 03/12/2023 11:25

Not exactly annoying well sometimes, walking towards the kitchen, they zoom ahead every single time in hope it's dinner time, going upstairs, they like to show off they are much faster they are than me by running ahead, in and out all the rooms before I reach the top of the stairs, jump on the loo seat knowing I need to sit there!
Fur balls in my shoes, not sure why maybe they think it's helping by not actually doing it in the floor.

crimsonlake · 03/12/2023 11:32

Getting up of the settee for literally seconds and then turning to sit back down only to find one of them has nabbed my spot.
In the morning as I am coming down the stairs rushing to get before me then deliberately lying across one of the steps!
Crying for more food as soon as being fed and despite the fact there is another bowl of dried food on offer all day. Crying for food if I go back upstairs and come down again, basically following me around crying for food. Why am I the only one who puss asks for food??
Crying to be let out then back in a few moments later, both indoors and outdoors.
Deciding to use the cat litter tray the moment I change it!
Deciding he does not like a brand of food he previously gobbled down, cue for food standoff!
I could go on...

Onacuctustree · 03/12/2023 11:35

15 minutes before I have to get up, ( it's not in any way a regular schedule) he wanders into my bedroom and circles me. Over my tummy, over the head board, then down over my shoulder. And repeat.
How does he know?
I just want my last few minutes of sleep.
Instead I go downstairs and offer food. No. Not interested. Go out? Noooo.
He wants to be talked to, told he is the best cat in the world..
As soon as I am fully awake he wants out...
Furry little fucker rules my life.
I still love him.

mrsdolittle · 03/12/2023 11:43

Another plastic chewer in this house. She definitely does it for attention when she is cross with me (because I am 5 minutes late with feeding/home late from work/not going to bed when she wants me to etc etc). She absolutely knows what she is doing and that it pisses me off 😡. Also scratching randomly at carpets and on the stairs. Again only does it when she is cross. Most of the time she is a dear little thing though 😊

Mabelface · 03/12/2023 11:49

Sits on the coffee table in front of me, looking me dead in the eye whilst he pushes stuff off the edge.
Sits on the arm of the sofa behind me when I'm reclining on the sofa and bats my head until I take notice of him.
Will go round all in the room offering high fives until the Dreamies come out.
Propels himself along the bottom of the sofa using his claws until I play with him.
