Does using dye in a washing machine damage it?

No it doesn't, to be on the safe side I done couple of empty cycles to rinse out.

It’s fine if you use the specific washing machine dye and follow the instructions. I find I need to wipe it down (door and seal) with vinegar afterwards to get rid of the last traces, but I’ve never had a problem with the machine or the clothes in the next wash.

I regularly re-dye black things to keep them looking smart.

I just follow the instructions - I use the dylon pods - and it's fine! Have dyed things black, purple and green.
