Should I call the dr about this?

8 weeks ago I was admitted to hospital with pneumonia. I was in for 10 days receiving IV antibiotics.

Since I've came home I have been coughing every day. I was aware that the cough could linger for weeks after so that's not my main concern.
My concern is that I seem to constantly have what feels like an allergy of some kind or a cold. At first I thought it was still the pneumonia symptoms lingering, but now I think it's something else.

I've spoken to the pharmacist and they are reluctant to give me anything to help. Apparently with pneumonia you cannot try to suppress the cough. I usually would take antihistamines when I feel like this and they often help but the pharmacist has said I shouldn't take them if I've have pneumonia. He was going to suggest me something for cold symptoms then checked on the computer and decided it's best I just ride it out.

It's been a long 8 weeks of feeling unwell.
Should I call the dr on Monday and see what they think? I don't want to waste their time as I would never usually call over allergies or a cold, but I've been suffering so long without any relief.

I would call them on Monday and ask what they suggest.
Sorry you've been so unwell.

After 8 weeks I’d check in with the GP. If you’re worried get some advice or reassurance.

I think after 8 weeks a trip to the GP is entirely reasonable. It may end up being for reassurance which after having pneumonia/ 10 days in hospital is still a useful exercise. Or it may be that there’s something else going on which requires evaluation. Good luck and hope you feel better soon

I would have checked in with the GP long before, OP. It’s entirely reasonable to see them after being in hospital with pneumonia.

Yes, speak to your GP.

Given you have had pneumonia it could be connected to that, or something new, or an allergy - you need proper advice.

It is not wise to avoid the GP when you have health concerns, that is precisely what they are there for. You have been seriously unwell recently, you need to take care.

Thank you all, I will call them Monday.

I didn't call them sooner as I was told by many drs at the hospital that I can expect to feel rough for a good few weeks after. As long as I didn't have symptoms such as fevers return.

Also, the pharmacist informed me that there isn't really much that can be done for someone recovering from pneumonia.

You can be checked though, to make sure there isn't anything that does require attention.

Tolerating feeling rough is not wise in a situation like yours, in case it means something is not improving as it should after the pneumonia.
