Dear God is there a worse courier than DPD?

I have 2 things on subscription, both excellent products - sodastream gas canisters from CO2U and fresh cat food from KatKin. Both companies use DPD and I'm becoming tempted to cancel my subscriptions just because of issues.

Last month's delivery man was appallingly rude (and let me tell you, my expectations are very low). I had THE TEMERITY to live in a cul-de-sac which is tight for parking, for which I received an actual bollocking. They also took away the empty cylinders, left me with my new set of full cylinders but also redelivered the empty lot (still empty) the same day!

This month, a different driver has merrily delivery £70 worth of fresh cat food to some completely unknown location! The photo is of a completely different address but I can't tell where. My address is not difficult! Cue me going to my neighbours' houses in the dark and cold to see if they had it by any chance and now having to go to the supermarket as I only have about 3 days worth of fresh food left. Plus the elderly cat will not love the change to her diet.

Thanks for listening to my rant!

Royal Mail, stuck an expensive and therefore paid signed for delivery, item in the recycling bin. But it was next doors.(luckily nice ones)
Evri, threw a parcel through the gate at 9 at night.
DPD left fresh dog food outside in the sun, defrosted.Despite me leaving a big sign saying “put in the shade”. Collected and redelivered to the same place two days later. Well you can imagine the smell.

My local DPD driver is fantastic. Best of them all by far. Before I moved here though DPD were shit. I had updates from them on one parcel - when they’d received it, when it was out for delivery, an apology that it would be a delivered a day later and that it was due at whatever time. It hadn’t arrived at that time so I checked the updates and they were returning it to the sender. They hadn’t even pretended to try to deliver it either, just decided to return it.

Cincinnatus · 02/12/2023 00:00

Does anyone remember CityLink? They were terrible.

OnlyTheBravest · 02/12/2023 00:33

It depends on the driver. DPD the best, Evri and Yodel compete for worst. Had my first package stolen by an Amazon driver but he wasn't my usual I have never had issues before.

UPS. They don't even try to deliver but deliver it to a nearby shop which I can't get to. Lying shower.

Our Evri and DPD drivers are actually pretty good (regular delivery drivers since before COVID).

Oh yes...that is what UPS did with my parcel. Some obscure shop that was difficult to find.

MissDollyMix · 02/12/2023 00:45

I hate to say it but I find Royal Mail the worst! Our local postman is a bit quirky and has take to wandering into my house and leaving parcels in my hall. Other times I get my neighbours mail. Not sure why?! I’ve also found a parcel for me that he must have dropped in the middle of the next street. I can’t bring myself to complain though because he’s very elderly and really sweet and friendly.
This is closely followed by Amazon (who are now delivering parcels for other companies?!) I could track my parcel so I watched in horror as my parcel made its way from Liberty in London to Edinburgh. Clue. I do not live in Edinburgh. I don’t even live in Scotland!!
My favourite is Yodel but that’s because our local driver is fab and always has dog treats in his pocket! Anyone who spoils my dogs gets the thumbs up from me.

Topseyt123 · 02/12/2023 00:57

I guess it must vary a lot on the person delivering in your region.

Round here the worst by far is Evri. Absolute shit.

2chocolateoranges · 02/12/2023 01:01

I’m thankful when delivery is Royal Mail, Dpd or Amazon.

Evri are the pits, we have had hassle with the last 2 deliveries. Prime example is dd got notification of delivery 2hrs before it was due to arrive ETA was between 1-2pm. Arrived at 12.05 while she was in shower, they took parcel away. 2 day, same routine , they didn’t arrive and then today it was delivered to our neighbours and left on their door step.

They are fucking useless!

BlueEyedPeanut · 02/12/2023 01:14

Hermes used to be the worst delivery service I had ever used. So bad that I stopped buying from anywhere that used them as their courier service. Then more recently, Evri became my next most-hated delivery service. I wasn't a bit surprised to find out they are Hermes under a new name.

DHL and Royal Mail are the most consistent I find. Yodel is good 90% of the time. DPD is 50/50.

Yes! Ups are lazy b£&stards. They make no attempt to deliver. We have a ring doorbell- so we know they don't try. They also drop it to a shop that's really hard to get to. On a main road / bus route next to LTN with no parking. Or 40 min round trip.

StoatofDisarray · 02/12/2023 09:14

(N)Evri is worse but most of them are pretty crap. Low wages, lack of scrutiny and unreasonable delivery schedules are probably to blame.

Ozgirl75 · 02/12/2023 09:47

Evri - left a parcel on top of my gate which I didn’t see until it was falling to the ground as the gate opened. Unfortunately it was a mug….
Evri also left a tube parcel propped against my gate which, when the gate opened from the other side (which I can’t see!) rolled into the road.
I even have it set up on every website - “leave it by the front door” but no, Evri leave it by, in front of or on top of the gate.

Ozgirl75 · 02/12/2023 09:49

DPD I find good - the local driver always comes right up to the door and is friendly and polite.

Lampzade · 02/12/2023 09:59

DPD are usually quite good.
However, the last two times the drivers have claimed to have ‘missed me’ which is strange because I was at home on both occasions.
I checked to see if they had dropped a card, but they had not, just a text and email.
Frankly, I don’t believe they even turned up

Fromage · 02/12/2023 10:00

DPD moron pulled up outside my house, looked, and drove off. I called and managed to speak to a human who said I wasn't in. I was sitting at the front room window, on idiot watch.

The moron was sent back, gormlessly showed me a blurry photo of something red in close up (his shirt, probably) and then said it was a photo of my front door to show he was there earlier, knocking.

  1. He didn't get out of his van.
  2. He didn't know why he didn't leave a card.
  3. I don't have a door knocker, there is a bell, which he didn't ring, because he had already knocked the (non-existant) knocker, he said.
  4. He couldn't explain why his presence was not picked up by my Ring doorbell, he said it must be broken, and he denied being a fucking ghost.
  5. My front door is green and he denied being colourblind.
  6. Obviously I custard pied him in his stupid face and egged his van.
  7. I wish
  8. No jury would convict me if I had.
LookMaggie · 02/12/2023 10:06

@Fromage haha your post made me laugh! Well bloody done on getting hold of a human and getting the moron to return! I'd love to speak to the moron who "delivered" my parcel yesterday. I'd explain to him that HE HAS ONE JOB! With all the technology available today, it's really not hard to find a fucking flat in a fucking major city in the UK and not to just leave boxes of FRESH MEAT outside random addresses like some fucked up horror film.

greglet · 02/12/2023 10:07

I had a parcel out for delivery with DPD last week. I got a text to say it was being delivered that day, then nothing.

Checked the following day online and it was on its way back to the depot after two apparently failed delivery attempts. But I hadn't had a card through my door or any indication that delivery had been attempted. Rang customer support and was told I had to speak to the company I'd ordered from as there was nothing they could do.

Shower of c*nts.

LlynTegid · 02/12/2023 10:08

To answer the OPs question, Hermes aka Evri.

I advocate that before placing any order online, it should be law that you are told who the parcel delivery service or courier will be, that you should have to acknowledge before paying.

greglet · 02/12/2023 10:08

But the DPD driver who delivers to work, rather than my home address, is great, so I think it depends entirely on who your local courier is!

Drhow · 02/12/2023 10:13

The annoying thing about DPD is the fact they won’t just pop it in a safe place like all other couriers. They always either deliver it to the NDN or worse, take it to closest DPD parcel shop which is about 5 miles away.

I didn’t have issues with Evri at all when we had the previous courier, he was our local courier for years and he was great. Since he moved areas, we’ve had all manner of issues. Lots of parcels not turning up or being ditched on the doorstep in full view of everyone.

pumpkintits · 02/12/2023 10:16

Our DPD driver is great, always know the hour I'm expecting my parcel to be delivered.

Evri on the other hand? Couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Absolutely awful and trying to speak to a human on the phone or web chat is seemingly impossible

GoodlifeGlow · 02/12/2023 10:26

DPD used to be good but my last two deliveries have both been thrown over our 8ft fence. The second time I reported the delivery as rubbish and then went back to do the same for the first delivery thinking it must be the same driver. But no two different drivers think it’s acceptable to throw parcels over our fence. One had plates in it, the other a brand new Dyson. The kicker, we have a massive parcel box next to our gate which is up a long drive away from the road so absolutely no risk of it getting knicked and we were home on both occasions. So yes absolutely rubbish!

This is very true. My Evri and DPD local couriers are great.

XDP on the other hand. I ordered some furniture, the driver was 'stuck' in a nearby town for hours according to the tracking info. I got a text in the early hours to say I was next, then it had been delivered. Like hell they had. Online chat was a joke, with the woman just saying "it says it's been delivered" I went round the entire outside of my house to check it wasn't hidden, even though the box was huge and heavy.

Hopefully I will never come across them, and their clapped out van again.

YorkieTheRabbit · 02/12/2023 12:07

My last DPD parcel was five days late! Out for delivery each day but it just seemed the drivers had so much stuff to deliver they couldn’t get them all done.
The day it finally arrived, the driver who brought it had actually collected it plus several other parcels from another van as that driver was way behind too.
I’m due a delivery from them again today, I’m not holding out much hope.
