Dear God is there a worse courier than DPD?

I have 2 things on subscription, both excellent products - sodastream gas canisters from CO2U and fresh cat food from KatKin. Both companies use DPD and I'm becoming tempted to cancel my subscriptions just because of issues.

Last month's delivery man was appallingly rude (and let me tell you, my expectations are very low). I had THE TEMERITY to live in a cul-de-sac which is tight for parking, for which I received an actual bollocking. They also took away the empty cylinders, left me with my new set of full cylinders but also redelivered the empty lot (still empty) the same day!

This month, a different driver has merrily delivery £70 worth of fresh cat food to some completely unknown location! The photo is of a completely different address but I can't tell where. My address is not difficult! Cue me going to my neighbours' houses in the dark and cold to see if they had it by any chance and now having to go to the supermarket as I only have about 3 days worth of fresh food left. Plus the elderly cat will not love the change to her diet.

Thanks for listening to my rant!

I have a parcel of cheese currently who knows where with DPD. Yesterday their driver recorded it as refused at the exact same time we were at home and receiving another parcel from DPD.
Dekivery rearranged for today. Exact same thing! I have CCTV, they never came.
Do they care? No. Will they deliver on Saturday as it is their error? No.

Always have issues with DPD and lying, they always say they attempted to deliver and don’t. Why do companies use them?

PinkTonic · 01/12/2023 18:51

All our local couriers are absolutely fine but my heart sinks if I order something and see they use Royal Mail. They are very slow anyway and then virtually never deliver when they say they will, despite the morning email. It’s always a day later.

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/12/2023 18:34

Royal Mail. Shocking.

Ah, now, I sell a lot of stuff and I always use RM to send them. Not because they're better or more reliable but because they are easier to get your money back when things go wrong.

Strongbeatsskinny · 01/12/2023 19:05

We won’t be ordering anything online that has to be delivered to our home. I’ve seen so many parcels dumped in view of the pavement. Local Facebook community people saying parcels tampered with items missing / stolen delivered elsewhere.I’ve purchased everything from shops in person this year clicked and collected toys from Smyths yesterday. I’m using the actual shops we’ve lost so many retail shops which is definitely not a good thing.

DPD used to be so far ahead of the rest it was ridiculous. Live tracking when everyone else's approach was more, meh, today, maybe, sometime between 3am and mindnight, maybe. Since covid though they've been shocking. One attempt and if you aren't in or they get the wrong fucking house then - for my address anyway - they deliver to 'a local shop', which was not at all local and a pain in the ass to get to.
It amazes me how far they've fallen, that they are on a par with Evri for me now.

Completely agree with this. The DPD tracking used to be so accurate I could practically open the door before the delivery bloke knocked. Now you get a message saying ‘you are call number 85, delivery man is at call number 3’ and then when they get within 20 stops the whole thing freezes and you get a text saying they have ‘missed you’. That really winds me up as it implies they tried to deliver and didn’t.

As for Evri, it is so dependent on the local person. Our current delivery chap is fabulous, but we’ve had some terrible ones.

don’t get me started on UPS - I have to take an hour from my day tomorrow to get to the drop off point and back.

When I rule the world, companies will need to be explicit about which delivery companies they use. That way, the courier companies might be more focussed on preventing either useless or variable service.

TerfTalking · 01/12/2023 19:23

Evri and DPD are great here, Yodel is the pits, the absolute pits.

CeeJay81 · 01/12/2023 19:48

DPD are good here and also the only one that have a local pick up/drop off point(which happens to be my place of work). To return Evri its 18 miles away.

Thanks guys. I emailed Katkin. I live at 1/2 Something Terrace. They tell me DPD say the delivered the £70 of fresh food to 3/4 Different Completely Different Terrace. I go there. It is not there!

Not overly impressed with Katkin to be honest. They send me out on a wild goose chase to pick up my own parcel and haven't even bothered with a partial refund or any sort of gesture.

At the end of the day, it's my unwell 17 year old cat who suffers here at the short-notice change to her diet.

If you have something delivered, and it doesn't arrive, under consumer law, it is the responsibility of the sender to ensure that you get what you ordered. They should take it up with DPD and if it can't be traced in a reasonable length of time they should resend or refund. It can be difficult to get the sender to do this but they should! It took me 10 (yes 10!) calls of between 30 minutes and an hour each to Apple last Christmas to get them to accept that DOD had NOT delivered the 2 iPhones I had ordered for Christmas presents. No time slot given and no photo to prove delivery so they had NOT been stolen from my property as claimed by DPD. In the end I got replacement iPhones before Christmas and some money off another purchase as compensation for the hassle so it's worth persevering with your cat food supplier. Good luck!

Cyclistmumgrandma · 01/12/2023 19:51

AArgh! who on earth are DOD? I meant DPD!

Circlingthesun · 01/12/2023 19:53

Evro are the worst, closely followed by yodel. Dos n Royal Mail as fine.

Circlingthesun · 01/12/2023 19:53

Evri

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/12/2023 19:53

I think the plan is to get everyone to pick up their own parcels from parcel shops and lockers. Which begs the question, should we be paying expensive delivery charges.

WhatNoUsername · 01/12/2023 19:54

Evri are terrible. I loooove my DPD delivery man. He is known throughout the village as being brilliant! He is so friendly and helpful. If he misses you and has time he'll try to pop back later in the day if he sees you are in!

PickledMuffin · 01/12/2023 19:55

I've never had a problem with any courier, but where I used to live, my neighbour worked for Hermes, I actually watched him grab boxes and throw them on the pavement, once i saw him kick one in the van. ( i used to work from home with my desk facing towards the window).

LookMaggie · 01/12/2023 20:01

Thanks @Cyclistmumgrandma the issue is that it's a fresh meat product. So if it can't be located quickly they have to send a new box.

Don't worry, I will make their lives a misery until it's sorted!

DPD are notoriously shit in our area. We've actually stood in the farmyard in the front of our house and watch them drive to the open gate, turn around and drive off. Then claim that they'd tried to deliver, but no one was in.
We resorted to putting directions,what3words references and even a photo of our house on the delivery instructions, but they still don't even bother reading them and just deliver to wherever they fancy. Quite often it is the same house number in the next street,as the post code is the same and I think that they look at house number and postcode and don't actually look at anything else.
They also refused to leave a parcel with a relative who is our neighbour,as they would only leave it with next door neighbours, and she lived opposite. They took that parcel away and delivered it through some one else's letter box,who happened to be away on holiday.
They are the very worst.

Oneblindmouse · 01/12/2023 20:03

DPD are great here. UPS are fi e too, but I rarely have anything delivered by them.

Evri are awful. A year ago I had a delivery reported as "left in porch".
I don't have a porch. It was pitch dark. Only 15 houses in our street but I asked at all the ones with a porch (4 houses). About a week later my next door but one neighbour brought a battered package to me. Evri had left it leaning on the side of her house halfway down the drive. They couldn't have left it in her porch as she was out and her porch locked when it was delivered. She has driven her car further down the drive than usual and drove over the package which had fallen down onto the drive.
Another time they hid a delivery of mine behind a wheelie bin in the next street. The delivery repoet said "handed to resident."🤬

Zingy123 · 01/12/2023 20:55

I agree DPD are shit. My DM ordered something to be delivered to a local parcel shop. The computer system at the shop went down when they tried to deliver there. She got an email to rearrange delivery. It wouldn't let her rearrange it.

It took 34 calls to them to agree to us going to collect the parcel. There was no possibility of it being delivered anywhere close to us. I had to drive 30 miles to collect it. We live in a large city but there is no depot here.

When I arrived they wouldn't let me in to the depot. I rang again and eventually got through to someone. They agreed to throw my Mum's parcel over the fence to me.

None of us will ever use DPD again.

AlisonWonderbra · 01/12/2023 21:04

Dpd are by far the best in my experience!

wlv12 · 01/12/2023 21:10

Round here it’s Royal Mail.
I’ve been expecting a parcel since last Monday - aka it’ll be 2 weeks on Monday, all the tracking shows is it was at the post office on 20th November.
Tracking never updates for Royal Mail until it’s been delivered, and there’s zero point in using a 24 hour tracking service if the item is wherever 11 days later. If I’d known the seller was using Royal Mail I wouldn’t have bought the item.

Indeed, and they should replace.

goababy · 01/12/2023 21:20

Evri are the worse by a mile. We really like our DPD man, always cheery and on time. We wave to each around the village when I'm out on dog walks/he's working.

Moorlander · 01/12/2023 21:21

God yes, DPD useless around here too. It's meant I won't order anything from Dunelm to be delivered now as they use DPD. The last 2 items I finally received were completely broken when they arrived. A mirror smashed to pieces and a blind so bent it looked as if an elephant had stood on it! And this was after a multitude of delays and photos of a completely wrong address in the next town. So frustrating.

mondaytosunday · 01/12/2023 21:27

Yes Hermes (now Evri). Appalling.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 01/12/2023 21:31

We do pretty well here but DPD failed to collect some parcels on 2 separate occasions from us saying that the first time it wasn’t ready for collection (bollocks) and the second time there was nobody at home - the proof was a picture of a different house on our road (we live in a very well marked house on a pretty main road). I have since stopped using any company that uses DPD for delivery or collections.

I tried and tried to nominate a safe space for UPS for a delivery that was due on 24/11/23. I just couldn’t find a way to do it on their app or website (was going round in circles) so I PM’s them on Twitter the day before. They were very responsive and asked for more details to update the delivery for the Friday. As it turned out they actually delivered it on Thursday 24/11/23 . Luckily the driver showed some initiative and found a different safe space - luckily it didn’t matter if this parcel got wet because it wasn’t a very safe space.

Evri and Royal Mail do consistently well.
