Has anyone got a younger dd bigger than older dd?

I mean, not just taller, but bigger overall.

dd1 is 17 years old and a bit small at 5'3 and 9st. dd2 is 13 and already 5'11 and 12st9 with a solid built.

Has anyone else experienced this thing before? I was thinking about how dd2 outgrew dd1 by this margin. It's not bad though, at all. I'm just being curious.

My friend does. Her 9 year old DD is the same height, and slightly heavier than her very slender 11 year old DD, and has been for about 5 years. Some people are just made bigger than others! Also, when I think of my adult female friends, the oldest sister usually ends up shorter than the youngest one!

User562377 · 01/12/2023 12:02

I have a younger ds who was noticeably taller and broader and had a deeper voice than his older brother. Now they're both older teens ds1 has just about caught up. There's barely anything between them height wise, but ds2 is still broader across the shoulders. They're just built different.
Ds1 hated being smaller and people assuming he was the younger brother. Ds2 hated people realising he was younger and commenting on how tall he was.
They're mostly friends now though.

Yes my 12yo DGD is built like her dad who is 1ft 3in taller than her Mum. The 17yo DGD takes after Mum. 😊😊

I have three nieces, the youngest of whom is the tallest and biggest. The eldest two are tall and very ‘willowy’- small wrists etc. They have low body fat % but are also not very muscular.

The youngest was the tallest of the three by the time she was in her mid-teens. She is solid, strong, athletic and just a totally different build. I think the older two took after one parent and the youngest took after the other parent.

3peassuit · 01/12/2023 12:17

My eldest is 5’ 1” and tiny but very strong and sporty. DD2 is about 5’ 6” and slim build. One is blue eyed and blonde, number two is dark haired and olive skinned.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 01/12/2023 12:22

Friends of ours have and, just to make it wierder, the age difference is about 5 minutes as they are non-identical twins.

Iateallllllthepies · 01/12/2023 12:32

Not yet, as they are 9 and 3, but I am sure there will be a big difference in height as adults.

Dd is 9 and has always been quite small. Just turned 3 year old dd is in the same shoe size as dd was wearing at age 5, she’s always been much taller than my 9 year old ever was.

9 year old seems to take after dh side of the family, his mum, sister, both grandmas are only pushing 5 foot 2 and even his dad is only 5 foot 4. Youngest seems to take after me and my side, all taller and leaner.

LollipopViolet · 01/12/2023 12:33

Not girls, but my friend's 4 year old DS is nearly as tall as her 9 year old DD and she is very petite whereas he the opposite in terms of build.

WeekWeekWeek · 01/12/2023 12:35

I’m the youngest and am far taller and generally a much bigger build than all of my older siblings- including the boys.

Justnoidea · 01/12/2023 12:36

My sister is tiny (5’2) and her DH is tall (6’4).

Their 7 yo son seems be taking after my sister - he has always been the smallest in the class - whereas their 5yo daughter seems to be taking after her dad. She is really tall - almost the same height as her bro so people always think they are twins.

Hope for my nephew’s sake that he has a growth spurt in puberty (which is apparently what happened to his dad).

Codlingmoths · 01/12/2023 12:36

I was the older smaller dd.with one sister not taller but bigger and another younger one both. When I was 20 we had a party for a grandparents milestone bday and the photographer lined up sister 1 and her boyfriend, pulled in 14yo sister 2 and MY boyfriend and took a nice couples photo leaving out the little one. There was a lot of assuming i was younger. Lucky I like her! (Now 😆)
wont happen to me, my 3 dc all seem to have husbands build and will dwarf me.

Oh and I’m fairly tall - 5’8, whereas my (younger) DSis is 5’2 as I said above. Our mum is 5’5 and dad 6’ so I guess I got my dad’s height. No idea why DSis is smaller than our mum.

LittleOwl153 · 01/12/2023 12:42

I should probably check you are not my SIL.. as you have just described my 2 nieces. Simple answer in their case is one reflects mum and the other dad I think. But there is alot difference in temperament and personality too.

desperatemum24 · 01/12/2023 12:44

I have one dd who's 5ft 1 and another who's 5ft 9. The one who's taller is also broad, wide shoulders, larger chest etc. she mainly struggled with not being able to wear tiny dresses and crop tops and feeling large next to her size 6 sister. Luckily as an adults she's become more confident in her own beauty.

peachgreen · 01/12/2023 12:44

My DP is smaller than his younger brother. Although DP is 6'3" so not exactly small!

Sdpbody · 01/12/2023 13:00

We measure our children on our wall chart on their birthday. So far, they have been exactly the same height on the charts (1 years to 4 years).

Both DH and I are average height for men and women, so I suspect our DD will be 5ft 4 girls.

I'm really lucky that both of my dds are confident about themselves and dont feel bad about them at all.

Yes, my nieces. One looks built like her DM (small and slender) and one like her paternal grandmother (taller and chunkier).

hiredandsqueak · 01/12/2023 13:13

I'm the second of four sisters and the shortest by a good six inches. My eldest dd is two inches taller than me and youngest dd is an inch shorter. My sisters got their height from dm I think whereas I got mine from dgm on paternal side who was barely five foot as well.

BoohooWoohoo · 01/12/2023 13:16

I see memes about this all the time. “If you meet 2 sisters, the taller one is always the younger one” sort of thing.

Saying that I am 3 inches taller than my younger sister.

Elastica23 · 01/12/2023 13:21

Yes, DD1 is 5'5" and 9 stone age 18. DD2 is 5'10" and ten stone aged 14.

It's only to be expected though, DD2 was 10cm longer than DD1 and 1lb heavier when she was born. They are both fit and healthy so all good.

DD1 does get annoyed with people thinking DD2 is the older sister at times though 😆

drowninginsunshine · 01/12/2023 13:24

I find second siblings are usually bigger than first. But your dd different is extreme!!!!

Well, yeah. That's quite true. But my dd2 is just 13 so it's definitely quite extreme.

I'm 5ft3, both my younger sisters are taller than me at 5ft5 and 5ft 6. I was taller than average as a child, got periods aged 10 and didn't grow much more. Both sisters started theirs much later than mine. I'm more on my mum's side as I'm fat and both of then have very slim builds like my dad.

My own dd1 and ds have a 15 month age gap. Ds is 2cm shorter than his sister. They could pass for twins. They have always been 91st and 98th percentile for height. Dd2 is 50th percentile for height but 98th for weight. It will be interesting to see how they change as they get older.

Grapefruitstars · 01/12/2023 19:05

I'm 4 inches taller than my sister. She's only 4 foot 11 though. She's petite like my mums side. I'm slim size 10 but she's a 6. I look huge next to her.
