Or do you have to go to a booth?

I did my DS’s photo using my phone and had no issues at all. Just used a plain wall behind and made sure the lighting was good.

I should think so. Husband and stepdaughter’s passport renewal pics were taken by mob and were acceptable by the passport office.

Did you have to print the photo? Sorry, I'm clueless, I don't even drive!

No I just saved the photos to files and uploaded. The application for the provisional was online. No clue if there is a paper version these days but unlikely.

When I renewed my driving license 6 months ago, you put in your name, DOB etc. online and the DVLA access your passport details and use that photo.
Not sure if it's the same procedure for getting a provisional license.

@losenotloose As a pp said, you can just use your passport photo. When filling in the form online they ask if you want to do that - they need your permission to access it.

Very easy - my son got his provisional license in days.

you now get a code to upload which is so convenient but you also get physical photos .

When we did ds's they used the picture from his passport. After the application was done he had to sign a bit of paper and upload his signature as the signature isn't printed on the passport any more.
