.........well its that or my period is due.......So far today I've had 2 huge wedges of plum loaf and butter.

A bagel filled with bacon and some noodles.

2 slices of black pudding

A kinder bueno.

A handful of cheese and grapes.

Just had another bagel filled with ham and it's a bloody good job I need to go shopping or I'd be having more snackcidents.....mm.ive got Thai green curry and veg planned for tea, hopefully that sorts me out before I resort to the weetabix and porridge 😳

YES. But also, yes, it started just before my period was due. I've also temporarily stopped taking magnesium, which I'm convinced is making me hungrier. I just seem to be fucking hungry all the time.

Edited to clarify that I think not taking magnesium is making me hungrier.

I was literally justifying eating crackers because it was cold while reading this post. I had an extra large lunch and then grazed all the snacks in the office like a sheep, just munching my way along. Off out some Christmas nonsense in an hour and all I can’t think is I hope they are serving more than mince pies.

Devilsmommy · 30/11/2023 16:13

@PutinSmellsPassItOn snackcidents, love it 🤣 is it like the way animals store up food for the winter to hibernate, maybe the human thing is to constantly graze in winter, I do frequently 😁

Yup. Been working from home in the kitchen this week and all I can think of is delicious food. I’ve also had a bit of a fluey virus which hasn’t helped. Just got in from my first proper walk in four days and had to eat a medicinal pikelet or three.

It’s jacket potatoes with cheese, leeks and bacon for supper tonight. I’ve already got them on, so they can crunch up good and proper.

blitzen · 30/11/2023 16:16

Oh plum loaf sounds good. Not heard of it before! Off to Google x

bryceQ · 30/11/2023 16:16

I only really eat at mealtimes so I'll make breakfast, lunch and dinner and not eat anything outside that. I think constant grazing makes you eat much more overall.

I have quite hearty lunches like daal with breads or stews or rice and meat

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 30/11/2023 16:39

Yesterday I had lunch in a well known pub in the lake district that's popular with walkers because it does massive bowls of beef goulash with dumplings and crusty bread.

Great, but I hadn't been up a bloody hill amd it barely touched the sides, I was still snacking on all the snacks...... I'll be looking like one of those fat squirrels preparing for hibernation at this rate. 🙄

Yes, we all know that’s best. The point of the thread is we aren’t all as perfect as you seem to be and sometimes can’t stick to that.
Me too, @PutinSmellsPassItOn Can’t stop at the moment (and I’ve recently lost 2 stone @bryceQ so I’m actually pretty good at eating healthily usually).

bryceQ · 30/11/2023 16:46

I didn't realise you were only allowed to give a response that said yes you can't stop eating.

I'm a full time carer for my disabled child so I don't have time to keep eating. Hardly "perfect" you know nothing about me.

cardibach · 30/11/2023 16:49

@bryceQ no, that wasn’t the question. Of course everyone knows they can stop eating. The question was whether anyone else is finding it difficult since it got cold, and whether anyone is else failing a bit. A sanctimonious ‘just eat meals and you’ll do better’ was totally unnecessary. We all know that.

MissyB1 · 30/11/2023 16:53

Yes it’s like our bodies are conditioned to seek out comforting food in the cold weather. I just want hot bowls of porridge (I’ve had two today) and lots of crusty toast with butter. Oh and I’ve popped a rice pudding in the oven, to have after a sausage casserole, we are having hot puddings every evening now.

wiseoldcat · 30/11/2023 17:02

YES! I cannot. stop. eating. It's driving me mad. I've put on so much weight this month :(

I wasn't offended by your comment, but as it happens I'm also a carer for my disabled ds and work full time. He's home full time now as he's left college, we get no respite so when I'm not at work I'm out with him to keep him busy and give his dad a break. I literally never stop.......unless its to eat it seems, because sadly that doesn't seem to be getting in the way of my snackathon at the moment. 🤔

Not forgetting my disabled dd too who lives in residential care that I also support. Sorting out the day to day slack from her carers not doing their jobs properly falls onto me. As well as any activities, Christmas stuff etc. All lands on my shoulders. It is what it is at the end of the day.

I think it’s natural . I’m not eating more (want to but resisting hard) but wanting hot foods and more stodge.

ValuableLimeLesson · 30/11/2023 17:10

I figure it's just my bear brain telling me to fatten up for hibernation.

Paradiseflycatcher · 30/11/2023 17:11

Oh god me too. Yesterday after a very early start in the freezing cold scraping the ice off the car and getting v cold in the process, by lunch time at work I was ravenous and NEEDED hot, fried food so devoured KFC mini fillets and fries, something I never usually get the urge to eat at all. Its like my body had to have it.

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 17:12

I think I could make a bucket of porridge (with brown sugar and cream) and finish it in 10 minutes. I can’t stop eating it. I woke myself up at 3am dreaming of frigging porridge and had to go down to make a bowl Confused

Having takeout tonight as it’s absolutely freezing and that’s all the nudge I need!

MinnieMountain · 30/11/2023 17:15

This is why I need to keep going into the office- I actually have to buy stuff to eat.

Doormatnomore · 30/11/2023 20:24

Just a quick update from the Christmas fair for the winter munchers, they had a butcher selling hot pies. If it can be wrapped in pastry I’ve eaten it and it was exactly what I wanted!

That's what I'm making tomorrow, pie, mash and marrowfat peas with thick gravy. I'm craving stodge so much at the mo.

My Thai green curry definitely filled a hole, I'm now stuffed but can't stop thinking about making rice pudding with a spare tin of coconut milk I found 🤣🤣🤣💁‍♀️

Last night I found myself gormlessly standing in the kitchen eating granola out the packet like a horse working it's way through a bag of hay.

I always find cold weather makes me crave extremely dense filling foods

Ginflinger · 30/11/2023 20:55

It is The Time of the Carb.

SgtJuneAckland · 30/11/2023 21:00

It's not just the snacks, it's the type of meals. Hearty rib sticking stuff.
Today I made a pork and cider casserole with dumplings, new potatoes and shredded sprouts, tomorrow cottage pie (mmm mash) and green veg, Saturday chicken stew. I've got a gammon to roast for Sunday. It'll take all my earthly strength not to make the leftovers of that into a pie on Monday.
No one wants steamed fish and veg or salad when it's this cold. Fact.

Edited to add I will also be making rice pudding at some point over this weekend....

cerisepanther73 · 30/11/2023 21:03

I think it's natural that we want to sometimes or more often comfort eat this time of year...
