I know that Amazon are not everyone's choice and I appreciate and respect their reasons.
However, if you do use amazon do you subscribe and save to get the better price and then cancel it? Do you have to wait until youve received the item to cancel? I like the idea, but worry that I'd forget and end up subscribed to lots of things!!

No, so it'll raise the order on your account ahead of your delivery date and send an email that it's raised the order and you can cancel at that point. I do it quite often and have to cancel bits that I don't currently need.

Yes I do. In particular for my November order. I find there are usually things that are reduced in the run up to Black Friday, with a further 20% off “coupon” for the first time you add it to S&S, and then the further 15% off for having 5 items in that months delivery.

Very easy to cancel after.

I do it with quite a lot of things. Mainly toiletries and cleaning/ laundry as I like to buy them in bulk. Combined with the offers you can save a fair bit of money. Easy to cancel/ postpone too.
