Buying from a pawnbroker

Jewellery.
Is it safe to buy jewellery from a pawnbroker, compared to buying used from a jeweller?

Safe? In what way might it be dangerous? If it turns out to be stolen goods?

Yes. I am wondering if specialist jewellers are less likely to unknowingly sell stolen goods.

Also I am wondering if it sits easily with myself and others, the fact that I would be buying an item which is available only because someone has used it to obtain a loan and not afforded to pay it back.
