Jury service - how does it work

So my partner has been called for jury service on Monday for 3 weeks. What actually happens on day one? Will some people not be used and be sent home or because he has been called will he be needed? We have lots of family things planned for Christmas so I'm
Hoping he's not needed and gets to go home . We are in NI if that makes a difference

Just tell him to say he recognises the defendant from somewhere, but he's not sure where, and he'll probably be sent home

Im on JS atm and on day 1 everyone turned up but we spent all day waiting around. Each time a case would be called they would choose 15 people then let 3 out of the 15 go. If you weren't needed you were let go at around 3pm. Take a book, headphones or something because it can be a long time before you get chosen. Some people aren't picked at all during their entire time!

Depending on where he works he may not get paid from work, only public sector and large firms tend to give full pay for jury service. He can claim some loss of Earnings from the court but it’s capped to a fairly low amount
