I normally wear a bobble/beanie hat but I want to buy a beret this year.

Which style do you prefer?

Definitely not a beret, it's mostly my ears I want to keep warm!

Depends what the rest of my outfit is.

I like both but a standard beanie type had ia a lot easier to wear and style - you can just put on and go and that's that (plus keep your ears warm). A beret needs faffing to look it's best and I find realistically also needs rearranging constantly to look genuinely good throughout the day or however long it's worn as it's about how they sit.

Good point.

A well-styled beret looks fab but I don't seem to be able to wear one without looking Kimberley-ish

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone look good in a beret in real life. Plus the aforementioned cold ears.

Sonolanona · 29/11/2023 10:13

I flew back from Norway this weekend and there was a very elegant lady wearing a beret... and she spent the whole flight adjusting it. Plus it didn't cover her ears so seemed pretty pointless against a very nasty wind chill as we boarded the plane. I think they look a bit daft!

friendsfiend · 29/11/2023 10:14

A beret seems like a style over substance option for me. Can look great styled right but it's not there to keep you warm.

I love a bobble hat.

Ear muffs

Sammi Jefcoate makes beret wearing look effortless, but I am not Sammi Jefcoate!

A beanie hat is definitely warmest, but if I'm wearing a nice wool coat one of these.

This is very Keira knightley in love actually and I’m not sure that’s a good thing!

That's just because she's really annoying, with her odd mouth movements 😂

I also have a few in this shape. Melanie-Brown-scaled.jpg

I think it very much depends on what suits your face shape with a hat.

Im pretty sure if I wore a beret I'd have to wear it like that to stop it blowing or just falling off - my hair is very smooth and slippery.

What I really want is a trapper-type hat with ear flaps. Or maybe a balaclava...Grin

FrillyGoatFluff · 29/11/2023 10:47

If it's cold enough for a serious hat, I'm pulling a bobble hat down over my ears to meet my scarf which will be peeping out over the top of my massive coat.

At that stage, I won't really care what I look like, I'll be largely unrecognisable except as a gliding mass of pouffiness and whinging.
