Chocolate spread which isn't hazelnut?

I would like to make one of these chocolate pastry trees, but I don't like Nutella.

Is there a spread which isn't hazelnut? Could I just melt chocolate (worried about consistency)? Will it taste crap?

Any thoughts welcome!

Cadburys spread

Pamperpartypooper · 28/11/2023 20:03

Tesco and Sainsbury’s also do an own brand chocolate spread that doesn’t have hazelnuts in.

There are lots of chocolate spread options which don't contain nuts. I tend to buy the Jimjams one from Tesco.

Cadbury's is much nicer than Nutella. I can't have it in the house or I'll eat it on toast by the jar.

The Sainsburys one is nice

Nutella is the nicest chocolate spread

Cadbury’s works well in the recipe.

Be careful with sainsburys or tesco own brand - the only ones i have seen say hazelnuts in the ingredients unless it’s changed. I was caught out when they sell both a hazelnut chocolate spread and a chocolate spread separately but they both still have hazelnuts or hazelnut flavouring.

steppemum · 28/11/2023 20:18

asdas one is hazelnut free.

MaggieFS · 28/11/2023 20:33

Just been looking at some of the suggestions and as @Lolloped says, the Sainsbury’s one has hazelnut flavouring in it.

Other ones I've seen just say 'flavourings' which is even less helpful.

I'm so tempted just to melt a bar of chocolate. But would that then burn? Go funny when baked?

Bonne Maman do a chocolate and salted caramel spread that I'd use myself.

Sunshineandgin · 28/11/2023 21:52

Pistachio spread is delicious and works really well for the puff pastry trees
