How long did it take for Ofsted to publish a report for your school?

Currently applying for a school place for DS. I have two schools I like and cannot decide between the two. Anyway one of the school has Ofsted doing an inspection today. With me being so undecided I feel like the outcome might help as to who to put as first choice. It states on the website reports are usually published with 38 working days. This may mean the report will not come out until after the application deadline.

I just wondered if anyone else can remember if this timeline is usually correct or if Ofsted published sooner than this?

Have you visited the school? Don’t forget OFSTED is a one day snapshot.

From memory I think it is 38 working days

We had an inspection last month (primary school) and it took 5 weeks for the report to appear on the Ofsted website.

Yes visited both schools and struggling to make a decision as which to put as first choice. I know Ofsted is just a small snapshot but with being undecided I thought it would help to know

My DD school just had inspection. Was 29 days til it was published. But don’t forget that it can take much longer if the school disputes any of the findings

My schools report came out at the 38 day deadline, but we were very happy with it and didn't challenge anything in it. Other schools who were done around the same time, who were not happy with their reports, so challenged them, took a lot longer to publish.

I'd take Ofsted report with a pinch of salt, we visited an allegedly outstanding school and whilst it was deemed as fabulous I just didn't get the feel.

Visit each of the schools, go with your gut as to whether it is right for you and your child. See how they interact with the kids as I'm sure Ofsted days are real day to day days.

Gut feeling is so very important in my book.

Usually around a month, I really wouldn't base my decision in any way on an Ofsted report though.

Bluevelvetsofa · 28/11/2023 10:59

What does your gut feeling tell you about the two schools?
Would that feeling change if either school got outstanding or RI?

The best school I ever worked in was RI for a long time. It was the most supportive of both students and staff, supportive of students with SEND, friendly, caring and inclusive. It didn’t tick many of Ofsted’s boxes.

It won’t be out in my experience. However the latest ks2 data will be published in the next 2-3 weeks which might help you decide?
