Achenbach syndrome anyone,

Does anyone get the burning hot, painful burst blood vessels in the finger joints. Last night I had it in my big toe joint.

Doctor google says Achenbach syndrome. Had it for years. Once asked my GP AND a medic at the hospital. Both had no idea.

I've attached a pic.

Had no idea that was what it was called, but after a bunch of curious googling, I think yes. I always just thought it was a minor trauma injury in the knuckle after rock climbing.

None of the googled info seems to think there's anything to be done about it though, and mine has always resolved after 2-3 days.

Were you looking for any particular response, or just sympathy and company in it?
Because yes, it does hurt and it's wildly inconvenient!!

Yes, I get this every couple of months, in my finger joints. It's weird!

DrFoxtrot · 27/11/2023 21:15

Yes I get it, both hands and feet. It's supposed to be uncommon but I think a lot of people have probably had it.

Me! I get it in my finger joints now and again. Really quite painful when it first happens but then fades away. I occasionally wonder about asking the doctor then decide its probably just some weirdness about me. How interesting to know it's an actual thing.

I knew there would be others here Grin

We think DH has this. His are less bright purple and more evenly shaped than in your photo, OP - his tend to look more rounded with only slight colouring. Always come on suddenly and painfully, though.

Does anyone else wonder if they are related to diet in any way? We've spent a huge amount of time over the years trying to work out what foods produce various uncomfortable symptoms, and these sudden hand bruises often seem to come on at times when he's also feeling less well in other ways.

My go-to solution is to get a plaster or a bit of sports tape on as soon as you feel the pain: you know what it feels like!
The pressure (don't make it too tight) helps the bleeding to stop and so reduces the bruising and pain after.

Yes! I get this in finger joints and toes. Had no idea it was a ‘thing’. We’re the Achenbach community! 😁

Hello. I have this too, and am wondering if it might relate to my joint hypermobility (abnormal collagen?)... does anyone else with this also have joint hypermobility??

MissSmiley · 21/05/2024 09:41

I'm hyper mobile and I got a finger bruise on a joint just walking round the co op last week. Just happens suddenly for no apparent reason. Only hands not feet though. Had a weird one on the inside of my wrist last week that lasted for a few days.
