I’m due to fly to London on Wednesday 6th December and have two options for flights either:

  • fly into Luton arrive 10pm (this flight is sometimes delayed)
  • fly into Gatwick arrive 5.30pm

I then have to get to Kings Cross. I’m aware there’s train strikes on the Gatwick express that day with Thameslink operating a reduced service details here https://www.thameslinkrailway.com/travel-information/plan-your-journey/industrial-action#:~:text=Travel%20Advice%20for%20Wednesday%206,with%20fewer%20services%20than%20normal

I’m not in London very much and haven’t been when there’s been strikes. I can’t move the day I’m travelling. My meeting isn’t till Thurs but have to travel on the Wednesday.

would you advise getting the Luton late flight or the Gatwick flight despite the strikes on the Gatwick express / reduced thameslink service?

many thanks!

Go to Gatwick. I travel often and Gatwick has more options! Go to East croydon: it's cheaper!

@buddhasbelly I'm on a train and there has just been an announcement that there will be no trains at all on Wednesday apart from a shuttle between Gatwick and London Victoria. Hope that helps!

@eurochick thank you for taking the time to come back and update - fortunately the meeting I was going down for has been rearranged due to the strikes hooray!

Definitely Gatwick. Even if there were no trains (which would be super unusual) you'd still be able to get a coach or even a normal bus which could get you to the outskirts of the tube system at least. When I fly into Gatwick I take the train to London Bridge then get on the tube there.

Luton is just so far, the transport options aren't as good, and I'd not want to be messing about trying to find transport that late at night.

Oh lol, didn't notice there was a second page! Never mind.
