Being called to get the Covid jab

WhatAboutCovid · 27/11/2023 09:15

Any doctor around?

Ive received texts this year inviting me to receive the Covid and the flu jab.
Im not eligible to any of them - as far as I know. (Or at least, I’ve never been told I am!)
But I do have a few chronic illnesses, not on the list.

Any idea as to why I have been put on tte ‘vulnerable list’? Would it be visible if I go to hospital for example?
It’s stressing me out tbh.

How old are you? Has something in one of your conditions worsened this year that might have bumped you up the list?
also, are you sure they’re genuine texts and not a scam that’ll be looking for money?

sixteenfurryfeet · 27/11/2023 09:21

Perhaps you could ring your surgery and ask?

I'm in the opposite situation of having conditions which are on the list, yet they are not inviting me for a jab.

dreamingofsun · 27/11/2023 09:24

they had me down for a chronic condition that i clearly dont have. their records are crap. the doctors surgery didnt have it on my records either. if you want the jab i would go and get it.

Our surgery messaged a load of patients who didn't meet the criteria for the jabs then told them off for not being eligible when they turned up for their appointments 🙈

ruby1957 · 27/11/2023 09:35

Just ignore it - life is full of these misunderstandings/errors.

dontgobaconmyheart · 27/11/2023 09:37

Have you got any health conditions? Take any long term medications that might indicate one?

I think it's just a generic invite for anyone that has one (whether it is serious or not) now is it not and not a declaration your GP has declared you 'vulnerable'. I've had several invites over the years and several this winter and it doesn't state anywhere that I am vulnerable or that there is a 'vulnerable list' - simply that records show I may have a health condition that may make me more susceptible to the effects of a virus or flu and can have a jab if I want.

Contact your GP surgery if you think it's in error or want more information but ultimately I really don't think there's much to worry about here OP.

WhatAboutCovid · 27/11/2023 09:54

The texts were genuine.
GP certainly hasn’t said it’s an error but that they don’t make the decision and doesn’t know why I’m on the list.

@Mothew thats interesting.
GP didn’t mention that as a possibility either.

@dontgobaconmyheart yes my texts said the same. And I thought like you re some medications but it seems that my GP doesn’t agree with that 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

The former group 6, CV group are automatically called due to diagnosis codes listed on your records
At a guess I'd say it's a coding error on your records
The GP would be aware of this, if he went through your notes which he might not have done
Do you get called for the flu jab too?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/11/2023 12:42

Before Covid I meant to add

Floralnomad · 27/11/2023 12:43

There are some really odd things on the list , my daughter had hers for coeliacs .

Yep called for the flu jab too.

If there is a coding error, I’d like to know which one tbh! GP didn’t seemed bothered.

I know what you mean. I have mild Cerebral palsy and I asked my gp who said I was coded under neurological conditions even though I have never had a respiratory infection
If you want the jabs then you'll be on the list
No idea how you can find out which code though
You mentioned hospital visits so it may be that

Mariposista · 27/11/2023 13:13

Don’t know why it’s stressing you out’. You are being offered something that you can choose to take up or not. You choose.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 27/11/2023 13:15

They have purchased a lot of vaccine shots, and fewer people are taking them up this year, so the GPS ( who get a flat fee for each jab) are widening the net.

Friedtofuandbeans · 27/11/2023 13:16

@Floralnomad mine too. I’m guessing it’s dumped under an auto-immune umbrella so they all get a call up. I don’t think they are at any increased risk really?!

BIWI · 27/11/2023 13:17

Why is it stressing you out?! Just go and have them.

I used to volunteer at a vaccination centre and this would often happen. People would get letters based on prior health conditions. They aren't sent by the doctors themselves they will be automatically produced or sent by someone in an office working on outdated information. Sometimes people would insist that I had sent the letters when I was just a volunteer ticking boxes. The NHS isn't as joined up as some people think which is not always a bad thing as it means not every Tom Dick and Harry working in it has access to your medical records.

Edit: the letters churned out automatically were sometimes not applicable but the letters with a doctor's name always were.

It’s something to do with spleens , apparently a % of coeliacs have splenic issues but lots of them are silent so they offer it to everyone .
