Film stars who give you the ick

Just watched The Holiday on tv. Love a bit of a cheesy romcom but why oh why did they cast Jack Black?! No chemistry with Kate winslet. There's something about him that just gives me the ick. I can't put my finger on it. I think he tries to hard to be cute. But he's not cute.

Who is your ick?

Gerard Butler, I don't know why but I can't watch anything he's in. I just can't stand the sight of him.

I agree 100%.

MadeForThis · 26/11/2023 23:17

Hugh Grant
Tom Cruise

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 26/11/2023 23:18

Another vote for Tom Cruise. Even before the whole sofajumping debacle, there was something about him that made me feel uneasy. It always just felt too forced somehow & reminds me of the Bob Monkhouse quote 'The secret of success is sincerity. If you can fake that, you've got it made.'

SecretVictoria · 26/11/2023 23:20

John Travolta, Grease is a very ‘icky’ film anyway, but there’s something about him I just can’t stand.

hattie43 · 26/11/2023 22:55

Jim Carey

If you read anything about his recent past you’re right. He is a dark-hearted wrong ‘un.

smilesup · 26/11/2023 23:22

Johnny Depp is deeply vile. Can't believe anyone feel for the bullshit.

backatschool · 26/11/2023 23:23

Johnny Depp any time in the past 15 years. Prior to that I loved him. Now I see he's a vile man.

MardyMcBlowdry · 26/11/2023 23:24

I love Jack Black in The Holiday. And he's brilliant in the Jumanji films.
Tom Cruise weirds me out, though.

WeThreeKingsofOrientAre · 26/11/2023 23:24

Will Ferrell
David Tennant
John Travolta

TheLadyIsAVamp · 26/11/2023 23:25

Nicolas Cage, I don't even know why but I can't watch anything with him in it. Think he must remind me of someone.

Pozz · 26/11/2023 23:25

Jim Carey
Jack Nicholson

dotdotdotdash · 26/11/2023 23:27

Yes I did @sollenwir and I’d forgotten he was in that. I think it’s partly my prejudice against so-called BBC ‘talent’ who seem to be in everything

whatchagonnado · 26/11/2023 23:29

Definitely Johnny Depp. He's got a very effective PR team. When the Amber Heard trial was on, there were a number of posts on Facebook of him visiting Animal Sanctuaries and I thought you absolute creep- you're just doing that to try and clean up your image. He's vile

Now Tom cruise I like in films but in real life...... ick!

Same! I used to find him a little sexy but his bizarre obsession with scientology reminds me of those people who sit next to you on the bus or train and insist on boring you with their conspiracy theories. I always found his relationship to Katie Holmes a bit creepy.

Talking of Dawson's Creek actors James Van Der Beek was very icky as Dawson. That may have been more his character though than him.

Sgtmajormummy · 26/11/2023 23:32

Michael Caine, especially the young MC with his finger-waved strawberry blond hair, creepy glasses and “sex symbol” swagger. Why he was given an Oscar I shall never know. I hope he gets remembered for his death scene in Kingsmen!
And Ben Affleck in anything, including real life.

Trinity65 · 26/11/2023 23:33

Benedict Cumberbatch

Tempnamechng · 26/11/2023 23:33

Eddie Murphy.
Russel Brand- even before the exposé.

Came on to say Philip Seymour Hoffman too. It made him a great actor as he was usually Supposed to be vile.

Yes, exactly. He was brilliant and specialised in deeply unpleasant characters. We were meant to find him creepy and loathsome.

I assumed the OP was talking about the kind of more conventionally attractive type who gets cast as romantic leads or action heroes?

I find George Clooney kind of icky in a clichéd kind of way — I think it’s the big, brown bedroom eyes. Though I like him in comic roles.

I’ve always found Leonardo di Caprio repugnant — he looked like a small boy in Titanic, then transmogrified into Mr Potato Head.

Colin Firth looks constipated and vaguely gammony. I can’t buy Ralph Fiennes as a romantic lead at all. (Which meant The English Patient didn’t work for me on any level. I would genuinely have shagged Kevin Whately over the other men, including Naveen Andrew’s.)

Daniel Craig is a bit weird-looking, and Benedict Cumberbatch is very, very weird-looking. Cillian Murphy, while a brilliant actor, is too Gollum-y for me.

I’m clearly difficult to please.

OnlyTheCrumbliestFlakiestChocolate · 26/11/2023 23:35

Jean-Claude Van-Damme

Jim Carey

Seth Rogen

EtiennePalmiere · 26/11/2023 23:36

I agree with almost all of these so far. Adding Ryan Reynolds though, something about him makes me want to run away screaming.

BiggerBadderBrainfogged · 26/11/2023 23:39

Nicolas Cage for me too and likewise I have no idea why. I cannot stand the sight of the man.

IHateLegDay · 26/11/2023 23:39

dotdotdotdash · 26/11/2023 22:53

David Tennant makes me cringe and he seems to get all the work; I can’t understand it.

Same!

Bbq1 · 26/11/2023 23:39

Love JB!

Agree with all of these somewhat. Actually I never found Leonardo Di Caprio icky but he hasn't aged well as an actor, he was brilliant in the babyfaced young man roles.

I actually have a soft spot for Colin Firth but I get what you mean about the constipated look. I like him as an actor a lot but he doesn't seem relaxed off screen at all. Beautiful eyes though.

funbags3 · 26/11/2023 23:40

Cruise, Depp, Pit, Gyllenhaal, and DiCaprio.
