Film stars who give you the ick

Just watched The Holiday on tv. Love a bit of a cheesy romcom but why oh why did they cast Jack Black?! No chemistry with Kate winslet. There's something about him that just gives me the ick. I can't put my finger on it. I think he tries to hard to be cute. But he's not cute.

Who is your ick?

@EtiennePalmiere that one's not irrational.

floweringinferno · 27/11/2023 07:54

The whole bloody lot of them. Couldn't give a stuff if they are famous or not. What's the big deal ? They are just someone else sitting on the bus next to me, so to speak. It annoys me that there are awards and other special events just to honour these people. They were just doing their job and got paid very well for it. Grrrr.

It doesn't bother me that there are award ceremonies, you get similar in other industries. It is beyond me why they're televised or anyone except the awardees families would want to watch them though. Award ceremonies are boring enough if it's someone you know personally getting an award, let alone for randoms.

They're not randoms, though, they're famous; so people think they know them and, for some reason, admire them. Or even get obsessed with them.
Many people are obsessed or at least interested with celebrity in general, too, so can't resist those shows with all the "stars" together, seeing what they're wearing and finding out who wins. Couldn't care less myself.

But yes, lots of people do their job well so it's bizarre that actors are so lauded for it. I'd admire a good brain surgeon more!

Not the ick, but I can't get over how light Channing Tatum's lips are compared to his skin so it looks like he's wearing light coloured lipstick. Very distracting

Yes I’ve noticed a lot of male film stars have this! Eddie Redmayne has a really bad case of it and I get major ick from him too.

I always got horrendous vibes from Russell Brand. Not ick vibes but his eyes are so black and soulless. And his voice is so high pitched and ‘awwww awight mate’ it felt very false. Like he was a puppet doing the voice and movements but the facial expressions didn’t match.

I’m well aware of Tom Cruise’s personal life and red flags but for some reason one smile and I melt 😐maybe it’s the flight suit..

LowbrowVictoriana · 27/11/2023 09:26

Bill Murray is the ickiest actor alive 🤮

Gerard Butler is like the angry man down the pub.
Adam Sandler's grinning moronic face always has me reaching for the off switch.

LowbrowVictoriana · 27/11/2023 09:29

What bugs me about Channing Tatum is how he's presented as this hot sex symbol that we're supposed to find attractive, when in fact he looks like a potato.
Not his fault though, of course.

gabbyaggy · 27/11/2023 09:38

Dustin Hoffman slapped Mertyl Streep across the face leaving the track of his hand before a scene in Kramer v Kramer. Creepy little man.

True and I've never seen his appeal at all.

James Franco. But I can’t put my finger on exactly why.

He’s a creep in real life. Plenty of allegations against him.

Channing Tatum 🤢 makes my skin crawl

He's a bit too 'chiselled' for my liking. Like someone carved him out of a tall block of wood.

isthismylifenow · 27/11/2023 10:25

I forgot about Ron Perlman.

I don't know what it is about him apart from the glide when he walks, but he just seems to act too smooth. An ick from me anyway.

bitchillytonight · 27/11/2023 10:32

Oh wow i seem to have found a subject we can all relate to! 😆 so weird how different things give us the ick, lots on here I don't get the ick from personally but also a few more that I do.

My strongest one is still Jack Black though. Just makes my skin crawl. The posters saying they love JB I genuinely cannot understand even a little bit where you're coming from! I guess it takes all sorts as my grandma used to tell me! 😁

I think that Channing Tatum looks like a tanned chiseled Wayne Rooney 😆

In some cases I think the ick is essentially a kind of uncanny valley effect. A purely physical reaction to seeing someone's face or body in a way that's abnormal, on a screen. You don't normally stare at people so long, or see their head being so giant. The two-dimentionality kind of distorts things, and that creates the ick.

That is only for the more physical manifestations, of course, not for the ones where you think someone is an ass. Though that is tricky, some actors are asses really but you don't care, others give the creeps, so there must be some difference?

I think that the fact that so many people find the intense manic types creepy is probably coming from a similar place.

IWIllDoItNowInAMinute · 27/11/2023 10:42

Nicholas Cage. I can’t watch anything he stars in.

silverxylophone · 27/11/2023 10:50

Woody Allen.

IWIllDoItNowInAMinute · 27/11/2023 10:56

Also Sylvester Stallone, Jean Claude Van Damme and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He even sounds like a potato. Channing Potatum.

EtiennePalmiere · 27/11/2023 10:58

Jack Black always looks like he has the cold sweats

ladymactíre · 27/11/2023 11:05

Baldwin brothers - lip-less white eye sweaty chin creeps
beside few already mentioned

squashyhat · 27/11/2023 11:10

Cillian Murphy is just so....strange-looking. Like an alien. Can't see how anyone can find him attractive. But it's a USP that has obviously served him well.

I agree. He would make a wonderful humanoid alien in Star Trek. Like Ross Noble - he doesn’t give me the ick, but every time Isee him I can’t help thinking what a brilliant Klingon he would make.

Snazzysausage · 27/11/2023 11:13

Jim Carrey - an odd vibe about him
Tom Cruise - my skin crawls
Johnny Depp - can't bear to look at him, give me a very uncomfortable feeling plus he always looks grubby to me,like he's a stranger to soap.

LaurieStrode · 27/11/2023 11:15

Lol, @spitefulandbadgrammar !!!
