Any existing Sky customers managed to get a good deal lately?

I'm currently in my regular 18 month renegotiation with Sky to get a good deal for staying with them. I gave my 31 day notice which is due to expire in the next week as didn't give me a good enough deal to stay when I spoke to them. I'm fully prepared to go through with the cancellation but wondered if anyone had got a good deal lately?

We have Sky Q with Sports and Cinema at the moment. I'm happy to lose Cinema as we don't really watch it, but DH is the sports fan so he would be disappointed if it did go.

We knocked cinema on the head. They said fine- didn't offer anything else. We are well out of contract.
We've just taken cinema back at £8 a month. Black Friday deal.
Didn't seem overly bothered with us at all.

Pinkbonbon · 26/11/2023 19:13

Only some of their staff have good deals to give.

80% of the staff are very limited on what they can offer. Because they just don't have those offers available. At least that's how it was in one of their outsourced call centres a while back.

No idea why. I managed a save rate of around 60-70% without much in the ways of offers tbf. So maybe they'd rather just rely on that.

If the person on the line doesn't seem fussed if you want to go, chances are they've likely already offered you the best deal they could.

Sky is just brain melting expensive at the moment tbh

Starlightstarbright2 · 26/11/2023 19:17

I gave up sky not missed it .

TwoBlueFish · 26/11/2023 19:20

Why not just try NowTV, cheaper and is month to month. I’m always being sent deals.

TheFutureIs · 26/11/2023 19:22

I switched to a free view only sky package as I rarely watched any of the paid channels (mostly just binge watch old series).
I made the mistake of missing the renewal date so got charged £70 for the month but as of December it's down to £36 for tv and broadband. I had been paying £53 when in contract

I actually cancelled with Sky in the summer and was going to go to BT but BT turned out to have no mobile coverage in our area which they had neglected to tell us so we ended up going back to Sky.

When I spoke to Sky initially they couldn't give me a good deal but as it got nearer the end of the notice period I started to get emails from them saying that they didn't want to lose me. I think that is a different department because I managed to get a much better deal from them than I was offered before.

I don't have Sports or Cinema. We've got the basic TV Q package with Netflix, broadband and land line. I would have been able to get it even cheaper but as the mobile signal is not good in the house I also had to pay for unlimited landline calls. Not including the unlimited calls we're paying £49 per month for TV, broadband and landline.

Sleeplessinseattle234 · 26/11/2023 19:40

Nope. We called and they said it was going to be double the price of what we were already paying. Went to cancel. Now normally they try and get u a better price. But this time they didn’t.

I wasn’t pay long nearly double for what we were already paying as I felt that was a ridiculously high price rise. So we left. They didn’t try to keep us either.

so we went to now tv. Which is cheaper and we can cancel whenever we want. Don’t miss it either. So won’t be going back.

AtticusMcPlatypus · 26/11/2023 20:05

Thanks. I'm looking at Now TV. The Black Friday deal with Sports, Movies and Entertainment is £27 for 6 months which is £15 less than I'm paying now, and £50 odd less than if I continued out of contract.

DH records a lot of a stuff to watch later which I don't think you can do on Now, so I'm trying to persuade him into it. I'm not sure our TV has Now built in so I may need a Firestick or similar as well.

Sky did not try and keep us at all! We now have a pretty similar package with virgin for so much cheaper. I do miss sky as have found virgin to be less user friendly but it's worth it for the money we have saved. It was extortionate and we were with them for years and years.

AtticusMcPlatypus · 27/11/2023 16:30

Sadly we can't get Virgin here. I might give Sky one last go with my newly found Now Black Friday price and see if they come up trumps.

Glad it’s not just me who threatens to leave every 18 months. I’ve about 6 months left on our latest contract and might actually follow through with going then, we realised a few weeks ago that we literally use the sky box to watch Netflix, prime, Apple TV & Disney+. Yes, I pay for 4 streaming services on top of my £80 a month to sky (although that does include my broadband to be fair)

I did get a notification on the my sky app last week offering me a free month of movies which I would have taken, but once I clicked the link I accidentally came out of it then couldn’t get back to it.

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 27/11/2023 21:14

If it's in your name just leave altogether and get dh to sign up next day. We literally halved our contract costs.

ExpensiveDecorations · 27/11/2023 21:18

DH cancelled ours, they called back a few days later and he negotiated it down to about half the cost it had gone up to when the contract ended, we were willing to drop cinema but not sport but ended up keeping both.

miniegg3 · 27/11/2023 21:22

Dh realised ours had gone up loads,so called and asked for whatever the offer was for new sign ups, they said no so he said he would just cancel and have me sign up as a new customer then. They gave him it 🫢 i think it was the entertainment package with boxsets and Netflix for 25 pounds

AtticusMcPlatypus · 29/11/2023 20:00

I just had to call them because the cheeky so and so's have taken my DD for December even though it's cancelled! Thought they might fight to keep me, but nada. So, after 22 years and thousands of £s, we're off.
