Nintendo switch help?

Hi, if I could get any help I'd really appreciate it!

I keep getting the following message when trying to insert my son's game into his switch "The game card could not be read. Please remove and reinsert it." I am not very tech so I don't know what to do besides buy a new one (which I really don't want to do right before Christmas)

It's definitely the game as I have tried other games in the switch and they all work. The game itself is shiny clean and not visibly damaged. He takes care of them and always puts them back in the case so i think externally the game card will be ok.

I've tried reinserting it many times but not had any luck. It is his favourite game and he hasn't played the switch for a few weeks so he's keen to get it working and I have no idea, please someone help me 😭😅

Oh my son just told me that when he first got the message for this game card, he also tried some other games and they all got the same message up. After a couple of tries, the other games started working again but the initial one continued to display this message.

When I have tried them they all seem to be working fine apart from this one game card 🤔

No advice but it does sound like the game is knackered!

Blow in the cartridge slot and try to clean the cartridge
When we get this it's usually dust related
Good luck

Blow on it. Standard way to fix any issues with any Nintendo.
Blow on anything you can blow. The cartridge, the slot, the screen, literally just blow on stuff until something works. It also works with faulty Land Rover electric keys.

Look at the contacts (shiny metal bits) on the game card. If they're not shiny or you can see dirt try cleaning them.

We always blow on the game card and the slot. We've done it for decades with every single Nintendo product. It almost always works.

Haha I love how blowing on Nintendo products is so universal 😆 I did try blowing but it didn't help. The golden bits at the back of the game card are all shiny clean and I can't see any visible damage to them either 🤔

It's so annoying that of course it had to be his favourite game and right before Christmas! Thank you all for the replies and suggestions though.

OP perhaps try Vinted if you need to get another game card, my son buys and sells his games once finished, can usually get £20-30 depending on the game rather than the usual £40-50. Might help ease the pre-Christmas blow!

Oh that's a good idea @PepsiMaxLime I hadn't thought of purchasing second hand!

He's such a good boy, he hasn't asked for a replacement and just accepted his favourite game isn't working...which makes me want to replace it even more 😅
