Le creuset skillet or Always cast iron pan?

Hi there,

Anyone have both and have a preference? I'm thinking of buying this

or this

Always cast iron pan

I'd mainly use it for cooking bolognese and frittatas

Hopeful bump

I've found the Always pan to be awful. We had to dump it in <6 months, despite treating it well.

stardust777 · 26/11/2023 20:30

Oh no, not good! I was worried about the upkeep, but definitely don't want to be shopping again in 6 months time

Le creuset is fab. Buy it!

I have the Always and use it a lot. It’s light and the non stick is great. I find the le creuset too heavy and prefer their ceramic casseroles and 3ply pans to their non stick, which has to be treated with kid gloves to last well.

Thanks everyone! I'm still in two minds - cyber Monday might be the decider.

We've got a couple of the LC pans (one came from a charity shop!) - we really like them.

i have a LC
Toughened Nonstick Pro Fry Pan and Frying Pan | Le Creuset
as well as an ancient american cast iron skillet.
between the two i have all the bases covered.
when it comes to dutch ovens currently i'm seriously in love with my
Staub the interior finish is impeccable.

I have a LC large shallow casserole dish with a lid and I use it all the time.

It's quite versatile actually because I use it as a frying pan, and a sauté pan as well as it's oven casserole main use

Mine is not enamelled on the base on the inside but I still chuck it in the dishwasher and just oil it after if I can't be bothered to handwashing it or depending on what I've cooked in it

It's survived and will survive decades more

I also have a LC cast-iron fully enamelled dish thing no lid and I can only use that in the oven for fish pies, roasting veg

Mirrormeback · 27/11/2023 00:17

I'd buy my LC shallow casserole dish instead of the LC skillet as you can fry with it the same way only it's more versatile

I have a Raymond Blanc cast iron skillet and it was too annoying to wash so I bought non stick tefal frying pans which I'm much happier with for certain meals

Mirrormeback · 27/11/2023 00:20

I have this but with a cast iron bottom in the inside

Le creuset skillet or Always cast iron pan?
Mirrormeback · 27/11/2023 00:27

Mine is quite old at least 20 years - my DM gave it to me because it was too heavy for her - mine has an oven proof black plastic knob on top not metal like the photo. Mine is the biggest size whatever that is

stardust777 · 27/11/2023 18:36

Thanks for your help everyone. In the end, I went for the cast iron Always pan. It seems lower maintenance and less heavy. I also used the discount code of a mumsnetter to get more money off - hoping I don't regret this!
