What are your best recommendations for facial moisturiser for dry skin? I need something really hydrating, suitable for 40 something skin. Budget wise ideally under £50.

I don't think you need to spend a lot on a moisturiser.

My favourites are La Roche Posay in blue and white tube, Ilyoon ceramide cream, Dr Jart Ceramide or tallow based cream from fierce nature (but understand that's not for everyone)

I also think in winter astral can be great.

And make sure you're not using a stripping Cleanser

Aveeno. The dry skin one. It's a body moisturiser but nothing is better for my dry sensitive face (and keeps eczema at bay on my body). If you've got a nectar card Sainsbury's has a discount. Should add I'm dry dry dry and barely ever breakout

Superdrug Collagen Intensive Recovery Cream is amazing

I alternate between aveeno for very dry skin/dermexa and eucerin cream (5% urea) for very dry skin.

Cetaphil, it's about a fiver. My previous moisturiser was over £200. Guess which is better

Vitriolinsanity · 25/11/2023 19:01

Olay day cream in the little pot.

I have spent £££'s but this works for me.

mynameiscalypso · 25/11/2023 19:04

I usually use the blue aveeno too but it's not cutting it at the moment so I'm on the look out for something too.

ArcticBells · 25/11/2023 19:06

Nivia

Loubelle70 · 25/11/2023 19:06

I have very dry skin...i mean ultra dry... nothing worked..i still had scaly skin. I now use eucerin 10% urea body lotion...its amazing...no flakiness of skin..or itchiness..you wont regret it..for face.. eucerin 5% urea face cream

SpinningOutWaitingForYa · 25/11/2023 19:07

Dr Sam's intensive moisturiser (on the pricier side but I can really tell the difference)

ThreeRingCircus · 25/11/2023 19:17

The best one I've found for my dry skin in winter is weirdly, Nivea Soft. I buy a big tub of it as you can also use it as a body moisturiser/hand cream but it's great on my face in the winter months when my skin gets dryer. Plus it's really cheap.

You can get it in smaller tubes too so if you buy and don't get on with it for your face it's still good for a hand cream.

FlutteryButterfly · 25/11/2023 19:42

Another vote for Aveeno

Loubelle70 · 25/11/2023 20:03

If your skin is really dry..like mine..flaky...use a zinc face wash too..then the urea 5% face cream. My skin from being kid always scaling and flakey .i found these 2 last year..i will always use them ..no more flakes and can wear foundation

AnneLovesGilbert · 25/11/2023 20:08

Astral is amazing but I stopped using it years ago due to parabens. Not sure if it still uses them.

When my skin has been its driest I’ve used weleda skin food to basically hold it together. It’s like nice smelling lard but pregnant in mid winter it was the only option as my cheeks were flaking.

At the moment I’m using pure argon oil followed by lacura night or day creams and my skin is lovely. I slap the oil on and it sinks straight in. I also use it on my hands, hair and baby.

Blipeuy · 25/11/2023 20:10

The dark blue Nivea is the best I've found. It doubles up as a barrier cream in the winter too

evryevrytime · 25/11/2023 20:11

Sunday Riley ICE is the best I've ever found and is just within your budget at Liberty at the moment.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 25/11/2023 20:12

The Simple rich moisturiser.

HanSB · 25/11/2023 20:14

I've tried so many expensive brands and La Roche Posay Cicaplast is my favourite.

MintLindt · 25/11/2023 21:00

A dermatologist recommended Physiogel cream for my 50 year old dry and sensitive skin. It’s the best moisturiser I’ve ever used and costs less than £15.

gravitytester · 25/11/2023 21:14

Superdrug Vitamin E intensive is really, really good. Glycerin is high on the INCI list.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 25/11/2023 21:26

Vichy Nutrilogie, the really rich '2' version in winter, the lighter '1' in summer.
Unperfumed and it's the one I wouldn't be without.

Citaphil rich night cream, cheap and unbeatable I reckon.

WhatYouWearing · 25/11/2023 21:49

Can anyone recommend a vegan (cruelty free) one please?

CeriB82 · 25/11/2023 21:49

Blue nivea is heavily scented and aggravates my eczema.

im a Clinique girl at heart but gave Cerave a go. I love it!!

CeriB82 · 25/11/2023 21:51

Oh i also swear by No7 youthful oil. A steal at £28 but often available for £10 (Tuesday deal)

LiveLaughLoaf · 25/11/2023 21:53

Weleda Skin Food is amazing, I swear I can feel my skin plumping up for hours after!
