In the office we were talking about haircuts during covid and how we had to cut our kids hair. I showed a photo of me with my two kids taken during this time, about three years ago - it's a happy photo with us all smiling and the kids have very short, and slightly uneven, fringes. I had just cut them.

My colleague said 'you have really aged since that photo'... I thought she was joking and kind of laughed but she said it again - emphatically. 'You have really aged since that photo was taken'. She was serious. I was so shocked I didn't say anything. Is this not totally rude?!

It was only 3 years ago.. I'm 46 now and was 43 in photo. My hair was a bit blonder then but I don't think I'm that different. It's been playing on my mind all weekend. I would never say that to someone! Just looking to vent.

That was an unhelpful comment of hers!

it shows she has a fear/worry about ageing herself probably

at 46 you are still in your prime. Enjoy it 💕🥂

Blimey, that's rude.

How old is the colleague? I'd have been tempted to say something like "You're no spring chicken yourself".

KnottyKnitting · 25/11/2023 17:31

That is gobsmackingly rude. How could anyone think that is a reasonable comment to make. Do they have form for tactlessness?

DustyLee123 · 25/11/2023 17:31

She’s rude. It’s not you.

NormalForNuneaton · 25/11/2023 17:32

Some people just have no filter!

She might have thought it and then the words just came out before she could censor them.

Or maybe she's just someone who likes to piss on your cornflakes 😂

Even if it were true - and I’m certain it isn’t because it’s only been 3 years! - you just wouldn’t say that. She’s so rude.

PuppyMonkey · 25/11/2023 17:36

Yes, on balance I would say that’s a quite rude thing to say.Confused

lucalucss · 25/11/2023 17:37

Sounds like jealousy maybe? Maybe she had a tough time during covid or doesn't have children herself and was jealous of your happy smiling photo? Either way she's definitely rude!

Olika · 25/11/2023 17:38

Gosh that was rude. I would have told her that.

Is she from a different culture? Some don't see personal comments like that as offensive.

I started in a new job and as I walked into a packed meeting room, an ex colleague from 15yrs earlier said 'Oh Hi, SM, we used to work at XYZ. Whow, you have put on SO much weight since I last saw you!!!'
I'd just had my 3rd MC after 13 years of TTC and multiple rounds IVF!

Some people just have no filter, OR, she was having a dig at you.
