Amazon Clothing Reviews by Men

I’m far away from any clothes shops so have shopped on Amazon for summer dresses, t-shirts and more recently sweater dresses, and all of them seem to have reviews by men written about something they “bought for their wife”. Is this just a euphemism for transvestism, or are there really women out there whose husbands buy them clothes and then rate them on Amazon?

Before anyone accuses me of anything, if it is the former I’d like to know just so I can disregard the review, as obviously something that “fits well” on a bloke is not going to do the same on me. If it is the latter . . . I am fascinated by the whole dynamic, since this is completely alien to me! Buy your partner clothing maybe, but then why not have her write the review, since she will have much more relevant feedback than an observer? It just comes across very strangely to me, like they are dressing a doll with no autonomy. But I could be completely wrong. Any thoughts? Has anyone’s partner ever done this and did it bother you?

I'm not sure about Amazon, maybe it is just some bloke leaving a genuine review who knows.

However there has certainly been an uptick in 'reviews' of M&S women's underwear by men with a certain fetish, clearly getting off on talking about how the fit and the material feels on them etc.

But we are not really supposed to talk about on MN because it's mean to mention it apparently, we are hurting their feelings by criticising you understand...You may well be accused no doubt of being mean by pointing this stuff out.

I think it's a bit gross that we are supposed to pander to men's sexual fetishes, but hey ho, that's the world today it seems.

I buy a lot of clothes from Amazon and i take a lot of notice of the reviews, for sizing/fit ect. (I'm aware there are fake reviews and i take this into account).

It really bloody annoys me when you find something nice, and you see there's only one review with a photo, and it's by Dave from Croydon with a wig on creeping about in his garden squeezed into the top or mini skirt 🙄

Thankfully I haven’t come across too many of those, though I agree it would be off-putting. I'm still trying to get my head around the set up where a guy buys his wife clothes and then writes the review about how she looked - so controlling - if it’s actually real.

I know what you mean. There are a lot of one liner ''my wife seems to like it'' reviews. It tells you nothing useful does it ?!😂

I've always just thought it was some joint account thing and the man is the only one who responds to emails asking for feedback? But maybe you're right - maybe The Wife doesn't exist, or is a kept woman .....

Reading reviews can be very entertaining. Trip Adviser ones particularly.

I have 2 X chromsomes. I'm built more like blokes than like a lot of women, I end up buying a lot of bloke clothes!

Which is absolutely fine - but if you leave a review, presumably you don’t say you bought it for your husband, and add details of what you thought he looked like in it!

I hate leaving reviews... however, it sounds like this item OP is looking at is often bought as a gift from M to F, so reviewing in that context, is not unreasonable

This puts me right off. No matter how much I like something, if there's a photo of some hairy trucker wearing it I just won't buy.
