How long do your gel nails last?

I don’t know what is going on with my nails! They used to last three/four weeks, no chipping and no peeling, since around August in two to three days they are chipping or literally just coming off! Same nail woman and same products! I’m tempted to get acrylics next time but worry about the damage to my nails!
I’ve just had a set done a few hours ago and one has cracked already!

Have your nails got weaker and are now bending?

Gell eventually did for mine..

Iwasjustasking · 24/11/2023 22:55

i Think they have, they are really weak! Should I look at getting acrylics?

It’s usually a sign mine need a break for a while. Do you use cuticle oil?

I get about 3 weeks from calgel or biosculpture but I’m too rough for shellac.

I have mine done every two weeks and have done so for well over 2 years. It's shellac gels and the lady who does them is very good! Very rare I get a chip or split and im forever doing diy 😬

Sounds like your nails need a break. How long have you been having gels for?

Poinsetta2023 · 24/11/2023 23:06

I’ve been having biab for 4 years now every three weeks. I’ve had it removed and not redone a couple of times due to going into hospital and have really strong healthy nails when I don’t have it on. I think it depends on your nail tech tbh. I’ve never had a chip or peeling and I can be pretty rough on my nails.

Edited for typos.

All2Well · 24/11/2023 23:08

BIAB lasts me up to a month before needing infilled and never chips!

Rossannah · 24/11/2023 23:11

Get biab instead

Nagado · 24/11/2023 23:28

Start taking cold liver oil supplements. It’s disgusting stuff but you’ll be able to leave nail marks in concrete they’ll be that strong.

TravellingT · 24/11/2023 23:34

Your nails are probably weak. Do you take supplements to support hair and nails? If not, do!
If you have any medical conditions like hypothyroidism your nails will be naturally weak so try to focus on strengthening them. Take a break for 2-4 weeks (you can still use normal nail polish if needed, but try to leave them bare), cuticle oil and strict regime of nail supplements. Then try BIAB or gels again.

Acrylics will stay on but will ruin your nails if they're in need of saving, don't do it!
