Just started to get cold here & dark before 4.30 & I can feel the SAD starting has anyone got any tips for helping to stave it off? Mine normally peaks about a week before Christmas so I have a bit to go

I've got a massive SAD lamp which does help. This winter I've booked some sunbeds as they're the only thing (other than overwintering in the tropics) that really shifts it.

DH suffers terribly from this - he has two big SAD lamps he uses at his desk, gets outside for a walk first thing in the morning and again at lunchtime with as much of his skin showing to the light as possible, takes Vit D, eats oily fish, and we try and book a holiday to the sunniest place we can afford over new year.

It's a struggle every year and I always have to remind him around February when he wants to do stuff like quit his job and run away and be a jazz player on a cruise ship in the Caribbean that this happens EVERY February and it's just the darkness talking - once the easter holidays start he's back to his old self.

I just snuggle on my couch and hate everything.

Great advice.
Early nights to facilitate both getting enough rest and being ready to head out for a walk as soon as the sun's up.

Same with me @Xiaoxiong every November finally peaking about a week before Christmas
@GarlicMaybeNot I used to do the occasional sunbed to help I think maybe I’ll go back to it
Do people rate the SAD lamps? I think I’ll see if there are any in the Amazon Black Friday deals
