sadly it's how the parole system works it's a disgrace though. poor Rivea

Once again we learn that the value of a woman’s life is nothing in comparison to the cost of a man’s successful career eh? Her poor poor family.

Couldn't agree more.

And you just know there'll be a whole bunch of Instagram "models" flocking all over him purely for fame and attention.

RIP Reeva. You deserved better x

Thank you. I didn't remember her name but I know his. How awful :(

Remember Reeva.

Hbh17 · 24/11/2023 14:58

The laws of his country permit this to happen, therefore I don't see why he should be treated differently to anyone else just because he is famous/infamous. His career is already destroyed and I don't think release will be entirely for him.
The Steenkamp family did NOT object to him getting parole. Maybe because keeping people locked up forever is pretty pointless.

Hbh17 · 24/11/2023 15:00

"entirely easy for him"

awaynboilyurheid · 24/11/2023 15:01

Well the Steenkamp family seem to be objecting strongly in the news today, with her mother saying the stress of her murder causing her husband to die early. She also says he has never spoken the truth about that night and she said not one person believes him. I would say that indicates they would prefer him to be still locked up.
Sniviling coward of a man.

Mochudubh · 24/11/2023 15:05

I think his whole story was bullshit. I think they had an argument during which he got violent. Reeva was scared and locked herself in the bathroom and when she wouldn't come out, he lost it and shot at the door. Whether he meant to kill her or just scare her into coming out is a moot point.

If he genuinely thought there was an intruder then where did he think Reeva was if she wasn't in bed?

GirrlCrush · 24/11/2023 15:06

He's served more time inside than he should have as it was all a bit of a mix up with sentencing

GertrudeSteinsbook · 24/11/2023 15:08

It’s terrible news but I’m not surprised.
When you look at the back story it was a classic case of an entitled man with anger management problems & a persecution complex trying to control & dominate a woman.
Remember Reeva.

Aposterhasnoname · 24/11/2023 19:45

CharliesAngels81 · 24/11/2023 12:44

Surely once he has done his sentence he is allowed to be released?

Maybe he is reformed.

Aye he’s reformed. That’s why he needs anger management

Sidebeforeself · 24/11/2023 20:19

@Hbh17 The fact that his career is destroyed is irrelevant. Thats no compensation for the fact he took Reevas life.

Elastica23 · 24/11/2023 22:37

I don't believe in summary justice, but honestly I am hoping something horrible happens to Pistorius as soon as he sets foot outside the prison gates. The Steenkamp family have had no justice at all with his short sentence. People get longer sentences for financial crimes.

Clawdy · 05/01/2024 09:34

Released today. Unbelievable.

LadyEloise1 · 05/01/2024 09:43

I thought he was amazing when I first read about his achievements.
As someone who is a "glass half empty person" I was impressed at how he overcame adversity.
Then he murdered Reeva. Sad
Heartbreaking.

People get longer sentences for financial crimes.

This is true, but not just in SA, unfortunately. The same often applies here and certainly in the USA.

Thoughts are with June today, and the late Barry and Reeva. 💔
June has posted an extremely dignified statement. She is admirable.
