Hello, I have an interview for my first CEO role soon and I’m a bit nervous.
Does anyone have any advice for me? I

’m particularly interested in any good questions I could ask at interview (I have some already) and questions to ask the staff team if I meet them.
It’s a charity role if that helps.

thanks everyone!

Good luck! 👏

If I’m stuck for questions I ask some version of “What’s your vision for developing [company] in the next few years, what are your priorities for growth and what do you see changing?”

Well done!

I am far off CEO material but I have been involved in interviews for CEOs and Board members (I work in HR.)

Mostly we want to see your personality and energy, how you think and we want to know your opinion on things and how you back that up. We need to know you're a decision maker, a good communicator and how you think strategically and influence people.

Questions we ask often involve something along your lines of what your vision for the organisation would be, what changes you would make, how can the organisation differentiate itself from others in the same field, what would be your plan for your first six months in post etc. We need to see you've done your research, understand the organisation culture and are able to make decisions.

Good questions to ask are about how the governance of the organisation works, how the organisation measures performance, how decisions are communicated to staff by senior management etc. You can also ask to see annual reviews, staff surveys etc if you haven't been provided with them already.
