TW* had termination now struggling TTC

Termination was 12 months ago- it was very much unplanned pregnancy which I can attribute to literally one time with DH. I hadn’t been in my job very long and we wanted more savings behind us so I had a really early medical termination at 4+4. It was straightforward as they can be but a horrible thing to have to do.

After finding it difficult to process we realised we wanted to TTC so have got ourselves to a place we feel we can provide for a DC and began trying.

Not fully out yet as period hasn’t arrived but negative tests so far. When period arrives it will be cycle 3. I know relatively that isn’t a long time but I know of lots of people who conceived immediately, technically including us only 12 months ago. I saw an article that said really if there’s no underlying issues couples under 30 generally conceive within 3 months. We are in our mid 20s.

It’s obviously approaching 3 months now - 60% of couples with no issues would’ve conceived by now and I feel torn up that I chose to terminate… what if that was our one chance. :(

Anything up to one year is completely normal. If you think about it, conception requires a very unique set of circumstances to occur, that it’s not surprising that it doesn’t happen right away, the very basics being that you need to release a healthy and viable egg, which is then fertilised by healthy and viable sperm, after having sex at the right point in time.

I am in my 30s but I got pregnant right away with my first as it was the one and only time we had unprotected sex. When we started trying for a second, it took 6 months. Similarly, it took a friend two years the first time, and then she got pregnant immediately the second time. So those statistics about getting pregnant within three months are unhelpful as it makes you unnecessarily worried.

Try to relax - the fact that you got pregnant last year in the first place is a good sign. There’s no reason for you to think that there’s something wrong.

Good luck!

Hi, a healthy couple with no issues can take up to a year or so to get pregnant so that article isn't correct. You have roughly a 30% chance every cycle. Good luck 😊

Did you post about this just a few weeks ago when you were on cycle 2 of ttc?
