High platelet count

user6776 · 24/11/2023 09:42

I had a blood test for gestational diabetes last week which has come back normal, however they have mentioned my platelet count is high and a blood test is to be repeated every 4 weeks.

I had a quick google and now I'm really worried as it mentions blood clot, did anybody else experience similar through pregnancy?

It can be normal and doesn’t mean you have a blood clot
it’s other tests that determine a blood clot

@Robotik I have a family history of blood clots so this has made me even more anxious

have you told your midwife this? If there was a risk of blood clots they’d have started you on blood thinners but an increased platelet count does not put you at risk of a blood clot.
I know it’s hard but you need to trust the professionals over Google

@Robotik Yep, at my booking appointment they asked family history. It was my grandmother who had a blood clot then subsequently a massive stroke, I'm not sure if they would have considered this high risk though. I will try not to worry I suppose there is no point doing that and stressing myself out
