Tell me about your student DC's who got penultimate-year summer internships ...

My DC is doing a numerate subject at a high-ranking uni, and has a strong academic record. They have applied for 6 2024 summer internships so far and had 4 rejections. If your DC managed to get one in the past, how many did they apply for before striking lucky?

Ds applied for >20 last year.
At least 15 Investment Banking, then some Economics Consulting.
He got to 1st stage with one of the IB and nothing from any of the other IBs.
He got through the whole process and got a placement with one of the ECs, again nothing from the others.

Mine applied for over 40. Numerate subject at a top uni, on track for a First. Very few even replied, but he got interviews with a handful, good feedback and was offered one in the end.
I realise this is an old thread, but for anyone coming across it, they should start applying in the autumn of the penultimate year as the best ones are filled quickly, and applications take a lot of work / time.

Thanks @Whalesong. My DC got one in the end. After about 12 applications, it was the only one that he got a face-to-face interview for. I agree that volume is key ... they just need to keep trying until they get lucky and find one that is looking for someone just like them.
