Unmangleable pillows (not feather)

Anyone got any recommendations?

I'd like to get DP some nice supportive but comfy side-sleeper pillows for Christmas, but the trouble is he absolutely wrecks pillows in hardly any time at all. He sort of… winds them around his arms and head in his sleep, then sets the twist into them with headsweat 🤢

It wouldn't be a problem if he could have feather pillows. Whatever you've done to them, a good shake and a couple of punches and you're set. But he's allergic to feathers, and none of the synthetic pillows seem to be capable of being plumped back into shape. They all just turn into sad, knotted, clumpy, and irrecoverably misshapen things within a week.

Unfortunately, he won't tolerate the foam Dunlopillo type either — says it's like sleeping on a brick, and I also suspect he resents their resistance to being contorted around his upper extremities.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a non-feather pillow that won't retain distortion after being tortured, and won't go flat in a week?

Dunes side sleepers last me about a year, I don't know what I do in my sleep but they're never going to last long. These are the best I've found.

That might be worth a look, Knitted, as we've got both winter and summer wool duvets and he's had no allergy issues or anything with those. Thanks!

I searched for Dunes and didn't find anything, aldi — was that a typo for Dunelm's?

Thought so 😅 Happens to me a lot with hitting the delete key instead of an M, which I think is what happened there. Thanks for the confirmation!

John Lewis do a cluster fibre filled one in soft/medium/firm. You get the plumpability of feather/down without the allergies. We have had ours for 4 months now and they are excellent.

I bought one of these from amazon. Its starts off like sleeping on a lumpy rock, but you can take out the filling. I love feather pillows but went through a phase of having a fat face when I woke up, so I tried this and it's an acceptable alternative

Wow, lots of suggestions — thanks for these, I have to disappear for a while but really appreciate all the recommendations, and will follow them up in my quest to find a pillow DP won't hate and can't ruin Grin

Pillows from Dunelm were the worst I’ve ever tried , lumpy misshapen and all the filling congregated in one place , but they do a lot of different ones , so maybe there’s a good one amongst them . I bought them after having some lovely ones in a hotel , but the exact ones were discontinued.
IKEA were cheap and lasted a few months . Various Amazon ones have lasted better but are just too hard . However Premier Inn ones are currently still doing well and come with the best pillow covers I’ve had which are quilted and very nice inside a pillow case .

Nowhere near pricey, but I bought these two years ago at least - and they are still going strong, soooo comfy, and a bit of a pounding in the morning returns them to like new.

Have you looked at silk pillows?
I highly recommend for comfort and shape retention.

These are amazing pillows. They’ve cured all our pillow related complaints.

They are soft yet with a nice supportive bounce. Not lumpy. Plump every now and then. Perfect. You can buy the wool balls separately too if you want to top have them a bit fuller. Easy to also take some filling out. From an ethical source too so that’s a win win.

I am not alone!

Thanks to everyone for all the extra suggestions. Some of them are a bit <gulp> on the pricey side, but I suppose for a Christmas present it's okay to push the boat out a little bit 🤣 Especially intrigued by all the weird and wonderful materials involved. I wish there was some kind of local pillow showroom where I could try them all out.
