IBS and dehydration

After a couple of months of mild symptoms for four weeks now I've been having 8 to 20 liquid bowel movements a day.

I'm guessing it's IBS. My question im getting quite worried about dehydration and nutrients. Food is passing through me.

I'm feeling dizzy and unwell now.

Anything I should be taking? How do I know if I'm getting dehydrated. Obviously trying to drink plenty but it's feeling like a losing battle!

Don't guess it's IBS. You need to go and see your GP.

In the short term, make sure you're getting your electrolytes, so get some Dioralyte.

Yes I thought i could get it under control and also I think IBS is controlled by diet. I will make an appointment. Just in the meantime is it worth taking something?

IBS is triggered by many different things - it's not one condition, it's a diagnosis when all other conditions have been ruled out.

If you've been suffering for this long, then you really do need to get a proper medical opinion rather than asking randoms on Mumsnet!

Thanks. I had three GP appointments already this year (5 years without any).so feel bad bothering them again. If no improvement by Monday will make an appointment and in meantime get Diarolyte

I'd be knocking on their door first thing tomorrow.

A sudden change in bowel habits is also a possible cancer symptom as well. Not to alarm you, as you're probably fine, but it does need to be checked out - especially as you've been suffering for so long.

Thanks. Yes. I guess this is a big change.
