I've been offered a new job!!!

TL;DR: should I email my boss to tell her I've been offered a new role?

I'm so pleased! I've posted before that I felt quite upset I went into a new job and was immediately shuffled into a team quite a long way away from where I wanted to be - ultimately I gave myself a year in role before admitting I'm just not happy and need to move. I applied for a couple of internal roles (sounds a bit scatter-gun, but they were the same role in different areas if that makes sense) and I'm so happy I was offered one yesterday!

Anyway - the bit I need help with is telling my boss. Or not <shrug>. I didn't bring it up prior to application or at interview stage because I didn't want to be embarrassed if I had to ultimately say I failed. I did however bring up that I was looking a couple of weeks ago at a review.

Should I email her and tell her? Or just leave it? I'm not prone to overthinking but this one's doing my head it! I'm tempted to email her tomorrow on her day off to tell her. But there's another part of me that thinks I don't want to, I'll just let her find out when she gets the email from HR. But that also seems childish.

It's an internal role, the move should be managed between your current manager and your new one and you need to do it all professionally because you will continue to work in the same company as your current manager.

You should make them aware, not wait for Hr to, and you need to make sure you do not burn any bridges.

Did you not have to notify your manager before you applied for an internal role? I thought that was pretty universal?

Congratulations anyway!

Congrats on the new role! I think you are overthinking this. Just email her now and update her.

Don't do this!!! You never know when you might end up working with her again. Just send an email, or in my case I'd ask for 10 mins of her time and tell her in person/ over the phone.

I let her know I was looking at other roles because I was unhappy, but not that I'd made applications. The last time I did that it bit me on the arse so I wasn't willing to be so open!

This is why I'm dithering! And of course because of what @CyberCritical says, I don't want to burn bridges.

I think I'll send her an email this evening. I don't want to wait till next week when everything is in swing but equally I don't want to send it now because I need some time to compose it even if it is only a few lines.

Leave telling your current boss until you have received the new contract & need to tell her.

Congratulations
